Sorry to hear of your disaster. I don't have an answer for you I can only tell you what did not work for me! I tried silicone and that did not stick to the plastic too well. I did not try epoxy but I suspect it will not stick too well either. The tap on my bunnings fermenter leaves a lot to be ...

Hey Kusty, I had heaps of trouble getting a seal on the lids of the containers you describe. They come with a massive rubber 0-ring but I had to return one to the store bacause the molded plastic was too warped, and the second one I had to "re-surface" the rim to get the o-ring to seal - used an ...

Yep, as you say Pacman, a friend of mine has capped over 6 batches using the same caps! He just twists them on using the tool you describe. All I got are twist-tops but I do use a bench capper on them (new caps). Anyway, my .0002 cents worth.... :D

Put me down in the Carbonator category, K and K so far, and "back-to-basics", and after 6 batches I am still experimenting and some of my experiments are "interesting". I want to get down to a reliable consistent K&K drop - a clean crisp lager - then move to all-grain...great thread - thanks.

Thanks Chris, good points, I only rehydrated once and normally don't rack, so it can't hurt for me to add these to my next few batches. Just bottled 56 stubbies last Sunday and looking forward to a taste test in a few weeks of a coopers bavarian lager...glug - glug!

Thanks again for the advice!

Chris- I did do 2 batches with a kilo of ldme - I still ended up with and FG of 1020, and weak (abv) beer (about 3.5%). One batch I dumped in 2 kilos of ldme, ended up with an OG of 1060, an FG of 1020 and finally decent abv of about 5.5%. So in my quest, I am trying to use sugars that ferment to a ...

Just bottled my sixth batch - all coopers and I have never had a batch finish below 1.018, with 4 of the 6 finishing at 1.020! (Yes, I checked my hydrometer and it reads 1.0 in water) All kit yeast except 1 which was a saflager, I am going to try the yeast nutrient thing next but Chris says it it is ...

I tried the Brita thing on Sunday. Put the plastic top of my brita water jug over the top of my fermenter (after cleaning, scrubbing etc). Then filled it up. After 1 hour of waiting I had less than a liter of water in the bottom of my fermenter - at which point I said you gotta be kidding and filled ...

Clean Skin Beer??

What a thought - my wife keeps buying this really good cheap wine. I only drink beer but judging by her reactions it really is good cheap wine.
They call them "clean skins", no brand name, just a lable that says something like "02 shiraz etc", I reckon just leftover wine or maybe "seconds" from ...

Bulk priming - I bulk primed my last two batches and the carbonation was inconsistent - some were fiz bombs, others had little if any carbonation - I did stir it to the risk of putting air in the beer. My next two batches will not be bulk primed - (I am brewing my 6th batch so still a novice - my ...

Yo evanmit - as long as you have some water in the airlock it is preventing air from entering your fermenter. If it was dry and completely lacking water then it would not be working as an air lock. I notice what you describe with my brews, by the end of a few weeks there is not much left in the air ...

My First (true) Lager

Hi All,

Looking for some advice here on my first "true" lager. This will be my 6th home brew batch.

I am thinking of putting down a Coopers Bavarian Lager.

Plan to use Saflager yeast, and ferment in my fridge at 12C.

I would guess I pitch at 12C also?

I have been brewing Coopers Lagers with ...

Hey mark what is the name of the yeast nutrient you used - 40 point drop ? Sound good! I talked this guy who uses a liquid yeast nutrient and he says he gets 2 percent more alcohol from a batch, I forget the name but he shops at esb brewing in sydney. Anyway thanks in advance - btw what was your OG?

Hey Phantom,
I will be drinking a brew to tonight.

In the mean time.

Lets see - near beer? Do you have access to sugar? Use the near beer as your wart, add sugar. The yeast is a problem- can you harvest it from near beer, I would be tempted to try a culture of yeast from the near beer or you can ...

Thanks Shaun, yes I did mean, 1.060 - sorry for the confusion.
I might try as you suggest, rack and wait a week. My "apparent" attenuation is about 64% on average but I am still puzzled.

Tried racking my first batch on Friday evening, ended up draining 10 liters of beer on the floor, I almost cried ...
