Yeast

Post by Damien1 »

hey guys, again.

This is just a question, i'm not gonna do it. I am a trade qaulified baker and was wondering what the hell would happen if i used instant dried yeast (bakers yeast) instead of the real deal brewers yeast. I read up on a yanky site that listed a heap of different cultures of yeast and what the effect they would have on the beer, bakers yeast wasnt one of them. :(

have thought the same myself; either use bakers yeast in a brew or left over brew yeast in a bake as i make my own bread! Thoughts gentlemen!
Some people say I have a drinking Problem....
I drink, I get drunk, I fall over....
What's the problem?

You won't get complete fermentation and it will taste off

There's one way to find out!

Make up a small volume of wort, say 5L and ferment that out using the yeast to see how it tastes. Pretty rank I would imagine.

Grabman, my mum used to make a beer bread, don't know the recipie, but know she would mix all the dry stuff and tip in beer, tasted allright, but it wasn't a bread you could use for sangers all week.

No really

I speak from experience.

Thats how this old hermit up on the mountain made it. He floated a piece of sour dough with bread yeast sprinkled on it. It didn't work worth a shit.

If you care to waste your time, go ahead, but then why ask?
