Re: esb freshworts, ezybrew clones

I love FWK.

They always make a perfect drop even if the cost is around $1 per 330ml bottle. However, Id rather a good beer than cheap shit. The reason I started brewing in the first place is that Australian beer is (generally) terrible. I swear most beers they piss in a bucket of hops and then ...

Re: Stepping up starters

Does aerating increase the risk of contamination...? I sanitize everything very rigorously and Im a bit concerned about pumping germy air into my sanitized yeast containers.

Re: Fresh Wort Kits

I think especially fresh heffe...

The more I like the style, and I really do, I am disappointed by the relentlessly quick ageing process. I have had Franziskaner that is good and bad, but never great. I think I have to do an experiment that involves a flight to Germany.

Which leads me to think of ...

Re: Fresh Wort Kits

The thing I like about FWK's is you can make a very consistent product (assuming you have clean proceedures and good yeast). The end result of some hefeweizens I have made using Wyeast 3068 has been far beyond my wildest expectations (considering how simple it is to mix: 1 FWK, 5 L water, yeast and ...

Re: Fresh Wort Kits

I have used fresh wort kits and the cheap kits from home brew shops. The results with the fresh wort are much much better than any of the home brew tins. I think the mash all yourself would have even better results but of lazy people who want quick easy beer fresh wort kits are awesome.

The filling was a great success! much easier than holding the bottles.

Bottle filling

I was using a 'autofiller' pipe to fill my bottles (one of those cheap $3 ones) where you hold the bottle and it fills. The problem I have is that its hard to fill due to lack of space as my fermenter is in my brewing fridge and I dont want to stir up the yeast by moving the fermenter to a more ...

Re: Farming and Washing Yeast

Thanks, I'll read those links over the weekend.

I'm hoping to get into grain brewing eventually but at the moment I use liquid worts. With the ingredients constant I have been experimenting with yeasts and temperatures as I'm seeking to make a very specific beer that I can often brew with a similar ...

Re: Farming and Washing Yeast

Thanks.

That was a very useful answer and what I was hoping for.

How about with regards to acid washing of yeast -- Is there someone with experience with that and is it useful? Do homebrew shops supply the chemicals (Phosphoric acid or Chlorine dioxide) and has there been an improvement on taste ...

Re: Farming and Washing Yeast

'Not wanting to sound too arrogant, can you read the locked thread on 'Making and storing liquid yeast starters'.

This will answer all your questions.'

Like for example my question regarding acid washing. If that thread had the answers I wouldn't have asked.

Care to explain nutrients? To my ...

Farming and Washing Yeast

Hello, Im back. I lost this website for a month and only found my way back tonight :( So far I have had four successful batches since my opening thread and am really getting into brewing. Anyway, I want some thoughts on yeast farming and yeast washing. So far in my personal experiment I have done ...

Re: accessing ingredients

I went to craft brewer just yesterday to get sorted out. They provided me with a wealth of information ( I swear I was talking for like 1 hour learning things) and also have pretty much anything you might need. I'd recommend going there. They also deliver Brisbane wide and MAY (dont quote me) send ...

Yeast starters

Sorry the other topic is locked...

I have used a liquid yeast starter and know from baking (and reading other threads) that yeast quality is crucial. Liquid yeast isnt cheap so I am thinking of making starters etc. My concern is getting a consistent product out of a homemade starter / own yeast ...

Re: Wheat Beer (German Weissbier)

I ended up with the model that the poster above me posted (fridgemate I believe) and after some swearing (stupidity on my part I cant read the 'MALE end of cord' and 'FEMALE end of cord properly) I got it all hooked up. I got the first batch going with a premix kit of HefeWeizen (figured I'd get the ...

Re: Wheat Beer (German Weissbier)

On of the main things I've been hearing and reading is 'temperature control' and 'cleanliness'. Now I have an old fridge downstairs that I could modify and noticed some external thermostats are available. Has anyone got experience with these? I really dont want to be doing things like ice and towels ...

Re: Wheat Beer (German Weissbier)

Thanks guys,

Im in Brisbane now. Currently I have no equipment and I have no idea what happened to it... Guess I will have to go and buy a new set (I hear the shops open again on mondays...). I know theres a home brew shop in logan I was thinking of visiting or I'm sure I'll find others. I'll have ...

Wheat Beer (German Weissbier)

Im completely in love with Weissbier since my visits to Europe and it is sadly lacking in Australia. Therefore I will brew my own. I have previously brewed gingerbeer but this will be my first attempt at a 'real beer'. I wish to keep it pretty simple as I'm a beginner.

Please respond with any ...
