Coopers Yeast changes

Post by matr »

I put down a Coopers APA today and when I put the yeast in I noticed there was brownish granules in with the yeast

I put it in anyway thinking it is possibly nutrient they have added. Has anyone noticed this as well?

Seems to be fermenting ok so I'll see how it goes.

I have noticed it and I think it's just the yeast, but i could be wrong.

I've only noticed it with the supplied ale yeasts.

I've read that you're better off not using the supplied yeasts, but i'm on a budget. I've not had any issues with supplied yeasts to date anyway.

My understanding is the APA is packed with a mix of ale and lager yeast. If memory serves me it looked different color to the Coopers original series and might have been a bigger granule size (it has been a number of months).

Did a couple of APA's back in June before buying my heatpad and was amazed that they fermented with the low temps, ambient in the garage down to 6 overnight, with the fermenter dropping to 12ish. Looking back now probably the lager yeast doing most of the work.

Planner.
Nothing interesting to see here, move along.

I did an APA, a Canadian Blonde and a Draught over the last 2 weeks and, yes, I noticed the yeast was a darker colour than previously in these as well. :|

I think Planner in onto it. It must be the lager yeast I was seeing.
