Left Over Kit Yeast

Post by Pom »

Is there any point keeping the left over packets of yeast from beer kits?
Does anyone have a usfully use for them or should I just bin them? :D

I use them as nutrient in my yeast starters. Boil a packet of yeast with the wort you prepared for the yeast starter to be sure they have all the nutrient they need.
Prost and happy brewing!

can even boil a pack in the last minute or two of a wort boil to make a beer - you're not limited to starters.

Good point KEG. If you are not using a starter with sufficient healthy yeast to ferment the batch it is an advantage to have the nutrient in the wort itself since this is where the yeast will be doing its nutrient uptake and primary growth.
