Are people really using 100litres of water to chill? thats full on...i cringe at using 50 somthing litres just to brew with.

Why do you need to filter hops? All my hops end up on the bottom with trub after a whirlpool...

Refractomoter is ok but bit of a PITA converting brix to OG's...guess it will go alright when you learn all the conversion. Well aware that hydro's waster more beer but only if you dont drink it ;)

I have just started mashing out using 10L of boiling water to get the grain bed up to say 75-78c.

The only reason i mash out is cause i was getting poor efficeny - by poor i mean 60-65% each brew (not so bad in some eyes). I use and esky with braid, Since i have started mashing out im getting 70-75 ...

Shows Called : Special Brew last week he made a lager i think.

Its on lifestyle channel in 80% sure.

Buy the biggest pot you can afford. 100litres if you can, cause you'll just end up buying another if you move to AG.

Ebay has an abundunce of GENUINE GERMAN beer steins...I browse them all the time, just make sure its has GERMANY stamped into the base or the name of the brewery.

Daves a legend. Helpfull, knows his shit and dedicated. He may even pour you a beer.

I've been going there for 4+ years. Started on Kits, then he showed me partials now its Full Mash.

His prices are good too.

Pah! Too complicated! Too many vessels! Too expensive! :wink:

All you really need to get into this sort of brewing is:
One pot (tap optional)
One home-sewn bag (drawstring optional)
One plastic jerry can (optional if you don't want to no-chill in your fermenter)
One heat source.

Nice work there Fents - I am oh so close to getting all i need for an AG setup, even managed to scrounge a 25L urn that Mum used to use to preserve fruit so i have a HLT! Dont ever let anyone tell you cheap AG setups dont make good beer.

Im currently using a 25lt bucket with braid and isulated camping mat as a mash tun - $50

I batch spage using a 15 litre poit i heat on the stove - $0 (already had it)

Kettle is a 50litre keg with tap - $80

4 ring burner - $60 ...

I did 3 AG's then quit cause i thought it was too long. Takeing me 4-5 hours to make 23 litres of beer in which i used to knock up in 15-20mins with a K&K....

Then i rememberd how good AG beer tasted and asked the folks on AHB for some inspiration to get back into it...

To help reduce time on brew ...
