Re: advice
Does it really matter what they were used for, you are gonna sterilize them anyway. So long as they don't have scratches and sh*t on the inside, and they weren't used for radioactive waste storage  , who cares. A day or so soaked in a good cleaner and sterilizer will fix all that. Check ...

Re: cloudy larger
Racking is transfering the beer into another fermenter leaving the sedinment behind in the first one, you'll need a length of food grade tube for this, and try not to let the wort splash around. This is easily avoided by letting it swirl around in a circular motion when transfering to the secondary ...

Re: cloudy larger
I would rack it and leave it in the secondary fermenter for another week. Lagers do usually need to be racked

Re: Old school habbits die hard
Does the bloke at the HBS even brew
Doesn't sound like it, and if he does, I think he needs more practice.
I wouldn't use 100% dextrose, I usually use LDME and a little dex. The other stuff sounds like he's full of crap and just wants it to sound cheap as hell to do so you keep going back there

Re: Larger yeast in an ale?
If your doing the Aus Pale Ale then I reckon you might get away with just using the kit yeast, if what I've read on this forum in the "common question cooper kit yeasts" is correct then it's a blend of Lager & Ale. It will take longer to ferment but that is a good thing in most cases.

Re: Measuring Hops
I do exactly the same thing, and I've had pretty consistent results. The only scales I have is an old (20 years old) persinware scale my mum used to use for making cakes (weighs in 20g increments). I do plan on getting a set of drug scales eventually  You can pick up cheap 2nd hand scales that ...

If it hasn't got goin' by the time I get home from work I think I'll just throw in the kit yeast, the only other yeast I've got ATM is Muntons Gold but I was saving that for something else

G'day folks,
Two days ago I put down the Hoegaarden clone in the recipies section, followed every step to the T except I used K-97 dry yeast. Still have no sign of fermentation, no krausen, brew sitting at 20 deg, pitched yeast at 23. I've checked for leaks on fermenter and all is good.
What the ...

Man, I'd forgotten just how bloody nice it is. Had one on the weekend and have made it my #1. The only problem was I had to share it with the missus and she won't drink a beer unless it's ice cold, was a little dissapointed that she wouldn't heed my advice and serve it at the desired temp :roll ...
