Has anyone ever come accross this problem before?I was cleaning my fermenter today and noticed a brown residue sticking to the sides if my fermenter, but it was even worse around the tap hole.I have tried to clean this stuff off with sodium percarbonate and it won't budge,so i don,t know what to do about it.I would assume that buildup like this could harbour bacteria,so i am wondering if anyone knows of a way of cleaning this stuff off.I have tried scrubbing with a nylon pad and that only removed a littrle bit of the shit. The stuff around the underside of the tap hole i can't get to so i need to dissolve it.

Soak it in hot water for a while then give it a good scrub with a soft sponge, that should do it

I use Neo-Pink stain remover/sanitiser with a soft cloth.

I just use a one step sanitiser and ignore the stains, never had an infection. I have a friend that literally racks the beer from his fermenter into his secondary to clear the primary for the brew he is making at the time. He then just throws in some sanitiser swishes it around and pours in the fresh wort, stains on the plastic and all. Never had a bad brew.

IMHO you can easily go overboard stressing about cleanliness in this game.

When I am in "constant supply of beer" mode I do pretty much the same, only I add a third fermenter into the mix... So I rack from secondary into a bulk priming tub & then bottle, then rack from primary to secondary, then put on another brew using the primary fermenter. So the only one that sees any daylight is the priming tub. I use neo-pink at a fraction of the recommended dosage (not to be taken internally, you understand...) and have never had an infection. Let's not talk about oxidisation though, please...
