Sanitizing Warning

Post by Gym_ »

Well I’ve just discovered the hard way to take great caution when sanitizing your fermenter etc

I was using Sodium Metabisulphite and pored a fair bit in a barrel and then tipped a jug of boiling water into it and got a lung full of the steam,

Not realizing that when mixed with water this crap produces sodium dioxide and extremely toxic cocktail,

I know this now because I have been barely able to breath for the past 24hrs and my throat is killing me to the point my eyes are watering.

So yas might want to keep this in mind

No one should be using that anymore when you can get idophor or sodium per. Throw it out and go get some more friendly cleaning gear. Even easier go out to Coles and buy the sensitve napisan for $5. Its basically the coopers cleaner but at 1kg for the same price.

I hope you improve mate :(
