Little Creatures Bright Ale
Looking to brew an extract version of this beer.
Looked on the website, says it uses Pale, Carapils, Vienna and Wheat.
and it uses NZ B-Saaz hops.
I was thinking 2kg L.D.M.E
1Kg Wheat
250g Carapils
25g B-SAAZ (Whole Flower) @60m
then some flavouring additions as i see fit.
Anybody have any help/ideas for this one?

Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
Mmmm i've been scoping this out - everyone seems to have cascade in it too
Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
Has anyone got a kit-based recipe for this beer yet? I'm thinking of using a light coloured kit that uses primarily Saaz for hopping (was thinking trying the Brewcraft Munich Lager or Coopers European Lager, although any suggestions are welcome), 750g dried wheat malt, 750g LDME, 100g Crystal steeped and an undetermined amount of Cascade for flavour and aroma... then ferment the whole lot with US-05.

I used amarillo all the thru on the last batch!James L wrote:yep... just bottled that... lovely....

Lachy - you need B Saaz which is about as different to Saaz as you can get. Apart from that, maybe use the Coopers lager tin and the rest of your recipe.
But B Saaz is crucial
Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
yeh i have an abundance of galaxy, so i thought i would try it out...
Next brew will be the ruination IPA but with galaxy, and only galaxy...
i bought at kilo of the stuff

Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
mmm let us know how it goes, I based a partial on that recipe but haven't had time to brew it yet
Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
I just bought the Brewcraft kit.
I tasted it in the shop (the Brewcraft shop I go to always has a couple of kegs in the fridge) and it was pretty good. Very similar to the LC version but with more flavour and IMO it was better.

Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
Whats in the brewcraft kit?
I assume it'd be something like, black rock pilsner blonde, brew booster (500 dexc, 250 ldme, 250 maltodextrin) 250g carapils, 15g Bsaaz, 15g Cascade, US-05?

Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
An update on the above extract recipe... not good... infection has struck so absolutely shattered!
Am thinking of hitting up a k&k based on the brewcraft recipe. I'm thinking at the moment
Blackrock pilsner blonde (not sure about the IBUs tho)
500g LDME
500dex
150g Dry wheat malt
EDit: forgot to add 250g carapils
10g cascade - at 20 mins
10g bsaaz at 20 mins
10g of both dry hopped.
US-05.
Looking at the recipe, it will probably be too hoppy, so might scale it down to 5g each at each interval. Any thoughts???

Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
With the 250g Crushed Carapils, does it need to be strained after boiling or can I leave them in.
I rack anyway after about a week, will leaving the cracked grain in have any affects that I need to be worried about?

Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
Yep, it needs to be strained. And don't boil it, steep in in hot water (65-70 deg) for 30 mins
Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
I like the sound of that recipe... in fact, I've got most of the above lurking in the brew cupboard here already. I'm not familiar with the Brewcraft complete kits... I don't know whether it's mentioned in the instructions, but could you give us the boil times for the relevant hops?BadSeed wrote:Almost....

Re: Little Creatures Bright Ale
l7edwards, thats a shame about hte infection, becuase i made an Ag version of the bright ale, based on the recipe that RWH gave me, and which you recipe is very similar to, and it is one of the best beers i've made..
I think if you were going to do it, i wouldnt bother making it with a kit, i would do an all extract brew.
make sure its saaz b and not normal saaz, as it will produce a totally different beer. I wouldnt use amarillo either... thats a totally different beer again (james squire golden ale).
It really needs to be Saaz B and Cascade (NZ or US).
Also, the hoppier the better ... i think i ended up chucking about 60g of both hops in throughout hte brew, and it tastes and smells fantastic.\
I think i started with about 9 grams of each at 45, then went to 18g of each at 20, and ended with 36g of each at 5. i know its a bit of a waste of hops, especially with the price of hops nowadays, but this is coming from someone who's just made an IPA with 130g of centennial in the last 5 minutes of the boil.
I'm planning on brewing the same batch again, but i want to aim for 35IBUs, and 5%acl... i think the reicpe that you've given gives abut 4% alc and 25IBUs.
