Carbonated Milk

Post by KEG »

any reason this hasn't been done? i've heard of Bilk (Japanese beer with milk in it), but that's not what i'm referring to.. I mean non-fermented, possibly flavoured milk. Like taking a Big M and making it fizzy

I have a ball lock to PET bottle adapter, might try carbonating my milo

In a PET bottle with a carbonator cap it can't hurt to try. Give it a whirl and report back. :)

I'd be careful of going a whole keg as cleaning would be a bugger.

Cheers,

there's no way i'm carbonating 19 litres of milk for the heck of it

i don't like the prospect of it lasting very long before turning nasty, either. would need ultra heat treatment to last that, then have NO exposure to non-sterile surfaces or air... not something I'm about to attempt.

Tried some Bilk while I was in Japan. Was like nothing I've tasted before and I had difficulty finishing the bottle. Hopefully your carbonated milk turns out a bit better.

Hey, there's some kind of carbonated milk drink available. I had it at a Japanese restaurant recently. Can't remember the name tho. :( I do remember it was made in Indonesia.

Yup! Sweet, only slightly milky (low-fat, perhaps?) and fizy. Kinda tasted similar to a lassi, except much less thick and fizzy. Tasty, none the less. :)

What about spiders? They used to have spiders in bottles, I think fanta made them? That was basically just carbonated orange flavoured skim milk...
Prost and happy brewing!

that's all very interesting - years ago I experimented with a soda stream machine and tried to make fizzy milk (horrible thought, but interesting concept nontheless) - created a wonderful explosion with an enormous mass showering effect - I was amazed how far milk will travel under compressed conditions - after spending an hour cleaning the ceiling I am still intrigued today, as to how this could ever be. You never know it could outsell Coke!!
