General homebrew discussion, tips and help on kit and malt extract brewing, and talk about equipment. Queries on sourcing supplies and equipment should go in The Store.
I recall recent lament on this forum concerning the impending demise of the Nut Brown Ale. Well, looks like more lamenting on the way
Local HBS guy said last night that others being discontinued include India Pale Ale, Bavarian Lager (and he mentioned one other, don't recall what it was).
Went looking for confirmation on Coopers site, but this appears increasingly out-of-date.
Anyone got the good goss? Be nice to know whether need to start scouring various Coopers outlets (e.g. supermarkets) for the last of ...
I'm a Coopers member so can access there bulletin board. About 1month back they posted the reason for this. I doubt there is an issue with me cut 'n' pasting this here, after all, any advertisement is good advertisement for them. Plus you can simply find this exact same information out at your local home brew store.
In the first week of March Coopers will release the NEW Brewmaster range under the banner of Thomas Cooper Brewmaster Selection.
A new brew joins this selection and the retained brews now display more individual character. I shed a tear for Nut Brown Ale but sales figures showed that it had to make room for a new brew...enter Irish Stout.
These brews will be available at your local HomeBrew specialist store and the Coopers General Store.
The Brews are:
Pilsener - more overt SAAZ character,
Wheat Beer - more malted wheat,
IPA (India Pale Ale) - now a seriously hopped beer in the style of a traditional IPA.
Irish Stout - roasted barley, in this brew, is the key ingredient in famous stouts like Guinness and Murphy's Stout.
The Brewmaster Selection development work has covered the past 24 months and our Master Brewers are certainly happy with the final results.
I have to admit to drinking through many a keg of excellent experimental product, last year's winter drinking of the Irish Stout prototypes was a delicious chore that no employee should have to suffer, savour, salivate over!!
Anyway, off to the Perth Coopers Club night, I will respond to your questions and give you more information about the Brewmaster Selection on my return - Friday.
Meantime, message-board readers are the first to know!
WHEN I WAS 14 COOPERS DISCONTINUED THEIR BITTER BEER AND REPLACED IT WITH THEIR REAL ALE MY DAD WAS PISSED SO I WROTE A LETTER ANY WAY 19 YEARS LATER AND I SEE THEY HAVE THE SAME CAN ON THE SHELF AT COLES SO DON'T WORRY IF IT SELLS THEN THEY WON'T GET RID OF IT IN A HURRY.
Don't be too upset, though, as you'll still be able to make it.
The Bavarian Lager is actually just one of their other brews supplied with a lager yeast (Saflager S-23?) instead of an ale yeast. From memory it's the "lager" from the Original Series.
Where do you get the Irish stout from? Has anyone tried it, I have had a look but cannot get my hands on it, is it called "Irish-Stout" or marketed under a different name? Thanks
This is the writ of the Baron, thou art truly blessed.
Is it in one of the tins with the picture of the man who has filled my life with so much joy on it?? What colour is the tin, I have seen the sparkling ale, bitter, lager and draught but not the irish stout, will go and have a better look soon. Has anyone tried it, any comments?

Bottled an Irish Stout last weekend. Brewed with the kit and a 1.5kg tin of Coopers Dark liquid malt. Tasted great straight out of the fermenter. I'll let you know when I sample it.
As gregb says, Cooper's categorically denies intending to delete any other beers from their homebrew range.
Here's what Frank from Cooper's had to say on their forum:
I love the internet rumour mill! No, we are not deleting either Bavarian Lager or India Pale Ale. Note that the relaunched, revamped, new and improved Brewmaster Series still includes IPA. I recommend you try our new version of IPA because we believe it is now even closer to the mark, particularly on bitterness.
Not sure that this is fair! "Mill" implies that the rumours are being manufactured here. Not manufacured, merely distributed more widely (perhaps Internet rumour mass-distribution facility? Not the same ring, to be sure, but more accurate).
To remind, my original post stated that the rumour came from a HBS, a presumably authorised re-seller of Coopers products. Maybe I fell to a sales ruse: Buy these now. We are nearly out, and there won't be any more!
Still, the important thing here is that the range continues! Long live Coopers, and all who sail with her!
