New beer - Boag St George

The good, the bad and the ugly of commercial beer and breweries, including microbreweries and craft breweries.

New beer - Boag St George

Post by anti-fsck »

Anyone tried any of this yet? My local (imported) beer supplier has a slab of it that some of his mates brought across from Tassie. Won't be here on the mainland for another six months or so.

Isn't Tassie part of Australia or have they finally left the Commonwealth?
Some people say I have a drinking Problem....
I drink, I get drunk, I fall over....
What's the problem?

Just tried one. Glad I only bought one and not 2.
One word, "Shandy". It smells and tastes like a beer shandy. My daughter (13) says it smells like lemonade. On the label it says, " aromatic premium beer with a distinctive citrus hop flavour to impart a less bitter, more refreshing style ..."
My tasting is not very sophisticated. I only have 2 classifications. Buy again or don't buy again. In my books, this one is definetly the latter.

Cheers

I have a bottle in front of me, looks more like a Boags attempt to enter the Extra Pale Lager market to me. Tooheys Extra Dry, Carlton Empire, Boags St. George, etc

Looks, smells and tastes like cat piss.

Like a miller with a stupidly hoppy overtone.

like drinking a bottle of water with a yellow crayon swizzelled in it. A seriously weak beer that might as well be low alcohol for all the flavour it has. I would almost buy an american light beer instead.

This has now dropped to $9.99 per 4 pack at major Australian liquor dealers.

I was speaking to my local bottleshop owner about this the other day. He said that there's no way he would ever carry it.

Among his comments were:

"If I want lemon in my beer I'll do it myself; I don't need some f---ing c--- doing it for me."

"We've had some f---ing terrible products released lately, St George and Empire."

"If a friend saw me drinking that shit (St George) I hope he'd whack me."

And so it went on. :D

Not a big fan obviously.

I was discussing it with someone at another bottleshop. She agreed that it was probably brewed to appeal to people who didn't like beer.

Cheers,

Oliver

Bought one against this forums advice, and yes, you are all correct. would almost rather drink diet coke (almost). I even treated the label to my tradition of adhering it to the door of my beer fridge, and it promptly fell off. My fridge is both older and wiser than me.
