Re: Formulating and balancing a new recipe.

+1 for beersmith
If you play around with it for a bit, it starts to make sense... And speaking as a person against using brainpower to calculate things, it's a godsend.
Oh and with the gallons etc, you can change the settings to litres, kgs etc, so no dramas there

You'll easily fit your grain in a six-pack esky, I get well over 2kg in mine without dramas.
Hope it all goes well for you!

That said Leffe Bruin is the best Belgium beer I've tried so far

+1 - big fan of Leffe, don't mind the blonde either
Got a bottle of Chimay Tripel (I think its the white???) in the fridge (got it for birthday a while back), not really up to speed on belgian beers so I don't know what to expect ...

Re: What are you brewing?

The start of my LCBA journey:
Bright Ale Mk I
1kg Joe White Pilsner
.5kg Weyermann Vienna
.15kg Wheat
.5kg LDME (after boil)
10g B Saaz 45min
10g Cascade 45min
8g of each at 20min
10g of each at 0min
1056 yeast
5.5L boil (it's not the size of your pot, it's how you use it... *sigh*) made up to 12L ...

Re: Hargreaves Hill Brewery

there's definitely six on tap there, from memory: ESB, pale, hefe, celtic, belgian... and lager (?). They were out of celtic when we went which was a shame. But yeah esb was disappointing for me.

Re: Hargreaves Hill Brewery

*bump*
Anyone been here lately? I went today (its in Yarra Glen, VIC), only had the ESB. I heard the bartender telling a bloke they used english hops, but all i could taste was cascade, and tasted more like an apa than esb, to me at least. Wouldn't rave about it, but then there's another five beers ...

Re: DrSmurto's Recipes from ANAWBS 2008

The Golden ale sounds delicious... I brewed a partial of it, tasted awesome out of fermenter, just bottled it and booooom... infection. blurrgh.
The worst thing - i didn't have any cold beers to wash it down with. I have to wait for them to cool down! Oh how it hurts

Re: As much info as possilbe wanted on doing a corona rip off

Can't beat an ice cold one on a hot day. The blandness and flatness is what makes it so refreshing, IMO.
You've got my support, besides, water has no alcohol.
Someone on here said to chuck a door-stop or something similar under your fementer (elevating the tap), so all the sediment sits away from ...

Preston to g&g and back? That's a fairly hefty ride. Unless you took Citylink, but I suspect the cops would pick you up before you got past the on-ramp!
Admire the dedication though... :o

Re: Test batches in 30L fermenter

i mostly brew 12L batches - logic being if it's crap, i don't waste as much, if it's good, i do it again - in a standard sized fermenter, which i assume is 30L (can't be bothered checking) and have no worries.
I'm no scientist, but i imagine even a small brew would create enough co2 to push the ...
