Suggestions for this style of beer?

I would like to try and brew the style of beer listed here.

http://www.matsosbroomebrewery.com.au/i ... .1215.html

Can someone suggest a kit that I could try? I was thinking maybe of the Coopers Dark Ale although its an Ale, not a lager like the Smokey Bishop.

Question about bottling time?

I have just done a Coopers pale Ale and added some honey.
I plan on bottling it tomorrow but then only have until the 22nd of September before I have to submit one bottle for judging in a home brew competition I am in.

Is 10 days enough time for the beer to have finished doing its thing? The ...

Best way to clean beer glasses.

I just learnt the hard way that dirty glasses can cause beer to go flat quickly.
So what is the best way to clean beer glasses? I have heard that dishwashing liquid shouldnt be used? If not what can be used instead?

Shaun,

Yes the small galsses we used at work had been sitting in the cupboard for the past year and never been used. We rinsed them but that was it.

The glass I used at home was a big Schooner challenge glass that my kids brought me for Fathers day and had never been used as was brought for my ...

Taste test of my first batch.

Well I got to try my first brew last night, a Coopers lager.

It tasted alright and reminded me of Fosters which is obvious considering it was a lager. However we drank it in small glasses and couldn't manage to keep a head on it for more than a few seconds. (Had it at work with some of the guys ...

Is home brew fattening?

Someone told me that home brewed beer has more calories than normal beer due to it having more sugar than normal beer. Is this true? My stomach doesnt need the extra calories

Great thanks Shaun,

One thing I have noticed though is the bubbles are very slow say one every 40 seconds or more. Would this be right at these temps?

Well 2 days later and my brew is fluctuating between 24-26C. Is this okay or do I need to try and get that temp more constant? Problem is I dont think I could. I have been using frozen water bottles dropped into the tub of water that my fermenter is sitting in, but it tends to drop more in the ...

Well guest I must admit I would like to be able to brew at such a low temp but unless I convert and old fridge I would never get it that cold up here where I live. The ambient temp in the cupboard is around 27C as it is.

No offence geust but are you from Nth America by any chance?

The reason why I ask is because I got the same advice on the newsgroup from a few Nth Americans. However when looking into it a bit fellow Aussies told me that Coopers yeast is designed to brew at the higher Australian temps that we get ...

Started on competition brew.

Well I started last night on my second brew to enter into the competition. A Coopers pale Ale with brew enhancer #2, 300gms of honey in 19 litres of water.
I also managed to keep the temp down to 25C by sitting the fermenter in a tub of water and dropping a 300 ml frozen water bottle in everytime ...

I will certainly keep it in mind.

I think this is a beer that you either love or hate. I hate.
Oliver,

Despite the fact that you are a home brew guru, I hate to say it mate but I think your opinion of commercial beers is about as bad as your choice in football teams. :D :D

Seriously though what is it that you hate about it. I ...

So can I also use 2 litre Coke bottles too then? I am about to brew a second batch which will be ready for bottling way before my first batch has even been consumed. I didnt want to have to go and buy more PET bottles if I can help it. But we drink lots of Diet coke so have 2 litre PET ...
