I found that the first couple of beers I did took a couple of months to really carbonate. Just keep brewing, after a while you'll be able to drink perfectly carbonated old stock whilst brewing new beers :)

grabbie, really, if you're desperate for bottles, just wait until the next garbage/recycling day, walk around and find the houses that had a party over the weekend, or ask a restaurant/pub, take the bottles, soak in bleach for a day, and then use.

beer in pickle jars? WTF? No, really, WTF? :shock ...

BigW and others also sell cooper's plastic longnecks, they're fine if you don't intend to store beer for a year.
Depending on what you use to prime your bottles, keep in mind that a lot of measurers are made for 375 and 750 ml bottles - so if you prime a 640ml with sugar for a 750ml bottle, drink it ...

as above, the secondary's benefit is to get the beer off the trub, but if you bottle straight after primary it doesn't make much difference. The clearing, on the other hand, is very obvious. When you rack to secondary, let it sit for a week, you'll be surprised at the amount of sediment that will be ...

extract works fine, heaps of recipes around, you can bitter to your own taste, but it takes an hour's boil instead of just throwing the kit in or doing a 10 min boil. You can do something that tastes better than K+K.

Look at the cat's meow for extract recipes, or the recipator, and tell me that you ...

Just keep in mind that you won't get the best beer ever on your first try.

If you want really nice tasty kits you'll have to get away from the cheapo options, in my opinion.
Have a look at ESB 3Kgs or 15Kgs packs, Grumpy's masterbrews (bloody yummy even in the fermenter) or Malt Shovel kits, or ...

Krout,

Are they any good? You done one? Are there "converter kits" that would make it more authentic?

ESB's 3Kgs kits contain all you require, no need to add any converter kits.

The majority of alcoholics wouldn't admit they have a problem. Make a test, if you can't spend a week without drinking alcohol, you have a problem.

nice site and forums, plenty of recipes and advice. I lurk here for kit related stuff, and check out both AHB and Grumpy's for extract and AG advice (not that I'm doing AG anyway, but it's interesting reading).

you can't stuff anything by racking (unless you don't clean your secondary :) ). At "worst", it'll continue fermenting in the secondary, but that's not really a problem at all.

Pellets are so farken messy. I've just poured the boiled hops into the wort on a few occasions, with mixed results. A coarser Cascade pellet caused no end of problems when filling bottles, blocking the valve on the end of the filler tube. A finer Saaz pellet looks like tiny grey flakes floating in ...

I'll play devil's advocate on bulk priming, I don't do it because I can't be arsed sterlising and washing (afterwards) another container. Timewise it's probably faster to line up the bottle and to put the dextrose in that to wash a container, sterilise it, then wash it again afterwards :)
I don't ...
