Cost of Yeast

Post by WSC »

Is it just my local shop or has dried yeast price gone mad?

You can pay from $4 to $8 for dried yeast. I was very suprised as I haven't brewed for a year or so due to buidling a new house, I swear all dried yeast was only about $4 when I stopped brewing.

This makes liquid at around $11 very worthwhile, especially if you split it up and make starters.

I will only be using liquid yeast now I have a fridge and temp control.
Never tasted FREE beer I couldn't learn to like!

I haven't bought dried yeast for some time, but I do believe the prices have risen.
I agree with you about the economics of liquid yeasts if you make starters and use it to make multiple brews.
