Twocan Stout Plus
Twocan Stout Plus
Hi guys,
Just thought I'd post a stout recipe that's worked out very nicely, it's been a favourite of mine and is a nice easy one to make. It's basically a two can brew, but with more malt added as the 2 cans on their own were IMHO a bit too bitter, plus some fresh hops to give the beer a fresher aroma (I found the cans have plenty of IBUs between them but not much aroma!)
1 Can Coopers Stout
1 Can Coopers Dark Ale
500g LDME
100g Crystal
15g EKG @ Flameout
2 x kit yeast
to 24L
Primed with 100g dex
For me it's a very easy drinking stout and one that I will be repeating!! Next time I'll probably add slightly more malt (perhaps +250g LDME) and 30g EKG.
Cheers,
Pale

Being a Newbie, I'd like to try this recipe, but I don't know what "Flameout" means? AnnaPale_Ale wrote:Hi guys,

Re: Twocan Stout Plus
when you stop the boil, take it off the heat etc i believe.
Re: Twocan Stout Plus
Pale Ale will be steeping the crystal and then boiling the resulting strained liquor for 10-15 mins. When he switches the heat off (flameout) he then adds the hops and lets them steep in the hot liquor for a period of time before dumping this into the fermenter with the cans and the extra LDME.Anna wrote:

Doing this adds aroma to your beer. Not really necessary in a stout but i cant hurt.
Re: Twocan Stout Plus
Thanks for that my Gurus! Anna

G'Day Pale
Just bottled a version of this and i'm drinking it after 1.5 weeks, Its an absolute pearler.
My recipe:
- 1.7KG COOPERS STOUT
- 1.7KG COOPERS DARK ALE
- 2 X KIT YEAST
- 30g “EAST KENT GOLDINGSâ€(EKG) HOP PELLETS @ FLAMEOUT
- 100g BEWCRAFT CRACKED CRYSAL GRAIN (STEEPED)
- 500g DDME
- 250g LDME
- 250g Corn Syrup(Maltodextrin)
to 25lts
Bulk primed with 120g dex
Forgot to take an sg reading but final was 1022(after 2 weeks and left it for another 2 weeks, with no change so I bottled)Have no idea of the alc%
Slightly under carbed but hoping this get better with a few more weeks in the bottle,(if it last that long)
Just liked to say thanks mate for a great recipe that I will be repeating regularly
Would you have any idea on what the sg would have been just by the recipe above?

Re: Twocan Stout Plus
Thanks for that Finnagann, I can now finalise my records for this one, as it is soooo nice I just have to do again soon.
Is that beersmith software handy for a K & K brewer like myself?

Re: Twocan Stout Plus
K&K not so much but you're more of a K&B guy it looks like and beersmith would definatly help. It takes a bit of playing with to get all your boil volumes and such entered in, but once you do you can craft recipes and it will tell you what kind of IBU, colour and gravity as well as projected abv that you'll end up with.DUFF wrote:Thanks for that Finnagann, I can now finalise my records for this one, as it is soooo nice I just have to do again soon.

The downside is you can't enter kit cans with thier IBU attached... but you can figure that out on the side or just add the appropriate amount of hop additions to get it right. I'd suggest trying it, you get a 2 week free trial.
Re: Twocan Stout Plus
Free Trail that sounds alright, Thanks for that i'll do a search on this site to c where i can get one from.
By the way what is a K & B brewer?
Whats the weather like over where you are mate

K & B = Kits & Bits.
It's where you use a kit as the bulk of your recipe, but you add other things such as, say, some steeped Crystal or other specialty malt, some extra hops, some LDME, or unhopped liquid extract etc, rather than just the kilo of sugar.
It will give you a brew with some more complexity of flavours and interest.

I'm smack in the middle of the N american continent. It usually hangs as -40C for a week or so in the winter and +40 for a bit in the summer with everywhere in between. Its pretty dry and lots of sunshine... sadly no surfing though :/ Lately its been around 0C, +/- 10. How about you?
Edit: Sadly I have not seen coopers beer, just kits... I have seen fosters but from what I've heard its not exactly fantastic.

Day temperatures currently in Port Macquarie 26 to 29ºC, night time down to a chilly 18ºC.Finnagann wrote: I'm smack in the middle of the N american continent. Still swimming at our local beaches. Was at South West Rocks this week (about 1½ hours north), and the water there must have been 24 or 25ºC. Very balmy.
I can play golf all year round here.
Finnagann, I can identify with some of the hardships of your winter. I grew up in Holland, so I know what freezing winters feel like!
From what I've read and heard, I think Fosters is brewed to local tastes, it's reportedly not the same in different countries. Oddly enough, it's one we see very little or none of locally.

Here! Here! I'm only 2 hours north of ya Warra48 and being a new resident from the snowy region this is heaven, going to the beach tomorrow after work for a quik swim before a barby with mates at home. no winters to speak of here Finnagann

bummer bout the Coopers

Happy brewing mate and thanks for the info.

I'd kill for some of that weather! How'd you end up in Ausland Warra?
I'll keep my eye out for some Cooper's... I don't seem to get around much since baby came along but if I get back down to the states maybe I'd have a shot.
