carbonation drops

Post by Hunter »

Hey, i know you old schoolers out there used to measure your sugar and all that, but I'm a new comer to the game, and guess what? I was all set up, sterile bottles, just about to pour.... of course run out of drops!!! darn it, is 11.00pm, I'm half cut. have left it all on sink, lucky i got the day off tommorow so i'll run down shop first thing, but what COULD I have done?you know, normal sugar? and how to measure? would it have turned out ok? (was a cider by the way)
Thanks!

The carbonation drops are easy to use, but they turn out to be a little expensive, compared to using plain sugar.

I personally use caster sugar, but you can also use ordinary white sugar, natural sugar, brown suger, dextrose or LDME. I use one of those little sugar measure things, which you can buy at your HB shop or BigW etc. It has two measures, one for 375 mil stubbies, one for 750 mil longnecks. If I have different size bottles, I just eye it up to get the right measure. I've never had a problem doing that and not a single bottle bomb.

Another option is to bulk prime. I personally never bother, but others swear by it. Do a search on here for bulk priming.
