I purchased a packet of Saflager s23 today, when I got home i noticed the packet had a small cut in the corner. No yeast escaped but i'm wondering if it will still be ok to use? I have put the packet in an airtight container in the fridge.

If in doubt, chuck it out. Buy another one.

Take it back - the HBS guy may have accidentally given you one he was planning on using himself or at the very least should give you another sachet for your troubles...I know Ross would!

Was the "sachet" the original Saflager packaging or a zip lock bag with some S-23 yeast in it?

Cheers,

It was the original packaging. Just to be on the safe side I bought some more today from a place near work. They tell me its a Saflager S23 equivalent called Brew Cellar premium lager yeast. Should do the job.

Cheers
