cider problem

Post by beeroclock »

my fist cider is in the fermenter bubbling away :D
but i have a problem
at the start i added abuot 1.5kg of apples but i
dont have a juicer so i put them in the blender
and put them staight in
but now i have an inch thick layer of apple pulp
floating on top :(
will it settle as it ferments?
or will it cause problems when its time to bottle?
can anyone help me?

when I had apple quaters in my fermenter in a stocking they just floated the whole time.
I'd assume that if whats in there is floating now that it would stay floating the whole time.

It won't sink. It could be a problem, or you may get lucky. I'd guess the former though.

Having had some experience with freshly squeezed apple juice, I can say that the floating 'scum' will never sink. Even when you vigourously shake/stir, it always separates again and rises to the top.

I have no idea (sorry) if thats going to have an effect on the fermentation though...

...But it may actually help with sediment I'd imagine..? You may end up with a nicely clear liquid...?
