O Dear O Dear I froze my beer!!!

Post by Crowash »

Hi All,

I had a lager lagering away as you do with a fridge I've only just bought... I have a fridgemate on it's way but in the meantime have been using a timer to keep the fridge about right. So when it came time to lager I just put the fridge on low and let it go.

Well I went to my fridge last night and went to take a hydro reading and nothing came out of the tap.... AHhhh the whole bloody thing is frozen..

So what's the verdict guys.. Is my beer buggered? What changes will occur one it gets back to it's liquid state? What about the yeast?

Cheers

crowash, take out the frozen part if you can, it's only water, mmm malty alcohol

siriously tho it will probably be fine, put some yeast into your bulk priming bucket just in case and it should carb up fine

Yes, freezing just kills the yeast. Let it thaw, pitch another sachet, then carry on as usual.

Thanks for the reply guys... Ahh all is well..

Thanks OldBugMan for the poetic slant!!! Looks like I may have to go get some more Saflager as it sounds like you can't pitch a different yeast back in.

Thanks again

Ash
