hi guys im worried because my airlock is not bubbling after 54 hours.

This time round i decided to use the kit yeast (coopers bavarian lager).

Also as of today im geting a very strong smell from my brew ive never experenced such a strong smell with pervious brews...

The good news is there is a growing amount of condensation on the lid...
it's also it formed a thick top much like the photo in this link...

should i add more yeast?, when is too late to add yeast?
is it bad to open fermentator (release air pressure) to check on progress?

i poured out a small sample to check the brew, its very cloudy almost milky is this normal?

thanks for the advice!

Everything is working as per normal. Don't worry about the airlock not bubbling, I threw mine out and stuck some hose on instead  Airlock not bubbling just means the airlock isn't bubbling. It's just a small leak somewhere. Your brew is producing CO2 and that will blanket the beer nicely. CO2 is heavier than air so as long as you don't actually have any obvious holes, it's OK. All the signs of fermenting are there; condensation, nice lager smell, good krausen, and yeast activity making it cloudy.

Cheers, Ed

Yep, once the yeast have completed the fermentation process, they should flocculate (clump together) and drop out of suspension. How long this takes will depend on the type of yeast. The Coopers Bavarian comes with a saflager yeast which I beleive is medium flocculating.

read the stickys or do a search for the 54 thousand other questions that are the same as the one you just asked.

Sometims you're brew will stop brewing or bubbling for no reason, and the only way of getting it bubbling again is to pop the lid and swirl.I've had to do this with a few of my brews, and it always works to get it going again.

I noticed the two times I did the bavarian lager it took a long time to take off.
