'Beer mat knows when it is refill time'

Post by Lebowski »

From http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/09/30/spar ... n=cnn_tech
Two German students have created a device that will stop beer lovers having to get out of their seats for a refill.

The "smart" beer mat, created by Matthias Hahnen and Robert Doerr from Saarland University in Saarbruecken, southwest Germany, can sense when a glass is nearly empty, sending an alert to a central computer behind the bar so waiters know there are thirsty customers.

Like the empty fricken glass isn't a dead giveaway. Some people just don't have powers of obsevation

On the good side it might encourage more people to actually use coasters for thier intended purpose.

Also you could rig it up so that it gave you your drinking statistics - how many you had, when you started when you finished, how long each beer took etc. Whether that information is good bad or useless I don't know.

Cheers,
