Beer Filter

Post by Tipsy »

What can anyone tell me about beer filters?
There seem to be a big price difference between them.

http://craftbrewer.com.au/shop/details.asp?PID=720

http://www.beerbelly.com.au/filtering.html

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HOME-BREW-GRAVIT ... 51965bb6d3

Is it the filters themselves that would be the price difference?
Would they be interchangable?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the beerbelly kit as do several people down here.

Work well as filters, gravity or keg to keg. Have done both and the resulting beer is brighter than any beer i have made no mater how much finings or time i allow.

Work even better as randalls!

Got the Clarance 1 micron abolsute keg to keg kit. It does a great job. Have heard the filters don't seal as well after time, but mine has been good. Yes, the housings are a standard size and the filters are interchangable. I did spend $10 extra to improve upon the john guest fittings.

Cheers

Thanks Guys.

Dr S., how much life would you expect from the Beerbelly filter cartrige?

Hirns and Leigh, do the cartridges have a paper filter or something else?

I saw your ad Punter, but i did wonder how hard the filter would be to clean with the plastc cover.

I've filtered half a dozen beers to date. The beerbelly model is pleated paper.

I still rack, cold condition, gelatine (yeast strain dependent) and polyclar prior to filtering.

Think of it as the final polish rather than asking it to perform miracles and produce crystal weizens straight from primary.

A good soak after in napisan, rinse and allow to dry. Sanitise prior to use. Very simple. Very effective.

Works for both gravity and keg to keg filtering.

Thanks Dr.S,
I don't expect miracles, just another small improvement on the way to perfection.

BTW I don't really expect to brew the perfect beer :) but I will keep on trying.
