Fridge Drilling

Hi,

I have just purchased a fridge tap for my soon to be kegerator. I have already drilled a hole in the side of the fridge for my gas line. It was an absolute bitch to drill that one.

The shank I have for the fridge tap is around 22" which is waaayyy bigger than any of the drill bits I have. Being absolutely clueless at all things diy, can anybody recommend what I need to drill a 22" hole through my fridge door?

Are you sure you want a 22" hole?

That's a hole about 57 cm wide. You won't have a door left.

Here is 1 suggestion and what I did probably frowned upon by others.
draw a circle the correct size then with a small drill bit drilled lots of holes just inside the circle trying to let the edges of the holes interlace, then used a socket ( 15mm socket I think it was) with the same external size as that of the shank to push the sharp pointy bits inwards.

Go to the hardware shop and ask for a 22mm metal hole saw. Make sure you check there are no lines (oil cooler,condensor pipes in the way).
When your fridge is running their will be latent heat at the points where the piping runs .
drill inside first until it leaves a small dent on the outer wall then drill the outside,easy and neat.

And don't drill too fast, take it easy so the metal doesn't overheat. Stop and resume as needed.

Ah ha! That's the one I used in the end! I work next door to a place that makes model aeroplanes. I decided on the off chance to see whether I could borrow a hole saw and the guy gave me that step drill bit. Worked a treat too!
