Possible Infection?

Post by Rob C »

I just took a grav reading of a partial hefe i put down last friday when i came across something i had not seen before. I has quite an off smell pretty hard to describe. I took a sample and had a tiny taste but seems ok to me. Brewed with 3638 Bavarian wheat yeast. This was 1 out of 6 that i made from a starter.

Cheers
Rob

Yeh it looks ok to me....

I might be due to the temps at which you brewed at.. i find with these wheat yeasts, the higher temps can produce some interesting odours...

I've also had a white film coating over the brew when using 3068 but that's normally if I leave them in the fermenter for too long. But they turn out OK. It's the smell of solvents (nail polish remover etc) that you need to be worried about. If it tastes OK then it should be OK.

Cheers,

Tim
