A little while ago, I asked a question (on here) about what to use for sugaring. After all that discussion, I have experimented and found that; ultimately as suggested (on this forum), Malt extract is best. I have tried honey in one but it's not ready yet. Anyway, I just wanted to inform you all about Saunders’ Malt Extract. It is available in the honey section of Safeway and is a couple of dollars cheaper than Home brew shops. Plus it is Australian and is preservative free, etc. This is not and advert, but info for fellow brewewrs, I hold no allegience to, or position with that company. Anyway even my die hard only use sugar neighbour is thiking of changing to malt extract.

You just need to keep in mind that these malt extracts are not specifically made for brewing so they may not give the same results as the Coopers extract, for example. The brewing quality malt extracts (like the Coopers ones) have the hot break proteins removed which can produce off flavours in your brew.
Most supermarket stock the Coopers dry malt extract anyway if you can't get to a HBS.

Someone has posted a recipe on here somewhere on using this stuff to make a brew (along with pearl barley from the supermarket too) and the results were good by all accounts. Do a search for Saunders on here and might find it.

I think a few people on this forum have use the Saunders with OK results. I've got a tin int he cupboard but haven't used it yet.
I found it to be a couple of dollars cheaper than the HBS but it is only 1kg compared to the 1.5 from the HBS, so the HBS works out more economical for me.

Yeah, that's baking malt extract. Brewing malt extract is higher quality. What that normally means is that it's got a lower protein level. I'm sure you can make good beer with that stuff though. And it will most certainly beat the pants off white sugar.
