This is always a hit with my mates, and even the ladies. It's damn close to the original!
Morgans Royal Oak Amber Ale 1.7kg
Liquid Amber Malt 2kg
200g Crystal Grain steeped
15g fuggles boiled 10 mins
Kit yeast (I haven't tried with safale or anything yet but this drop is still great using the kit yeast)

Its very drinkable at two weeks and turns into heaven after 6!
Enjoy!

Re: James Squires Amber Ale
At the LHBS I saw this one and thought I'd give it a go.
JSAA:
Munton's Premium Blonde tin
Liquid Amber Malt Extract 1.5 kg tin
Cluster Hops 12 gr 15 minutes.
Cluster Hops 12 gr flameout.
Safale S04.
I put it on this morning, but due to the HBS not having cluster pellets, he told me to use a 14gr Cluster teabag and I have used that instead. (steep for 10 mins and throw the lot into the fermenter)
I tasted the wort from the hydrometer (SG 1036) and fear that it's not hoppy enough.
I saw that someone mentioned willamette was the correct hops to use in a post somewhere.
Should I panic? Relax and have a homebrew? Dry Hop? Late Hop? Anything?

In battle when victorious, you deserve beer.
In defeat, you need it.
In defeat, you need it.
Re: James Squires Amber Ale
I did a JSAA clone similar to this one based on probably the same recipe sheet at the HBS. While it made beer that was fine I didn't think it was a very good clone. There's quite a number of threads on this board for JSAA clones and I think that they are much more tested and fine tuned than the recipes that are in those pamphlets at the HBS. That said, relax it should be a fine beer. I'm not sure about dry hopping with willamette, others will know if it will go with the cluster thats already in there.

Re: James Squires Amber Ale
I think you'll find that JSAA is supposed to be an english amber ale so i dont think cluster is really an appropriate hop. Fuggles or willamette or east kent golding would be more in style.JSAA:

Relax and have a homebrew. Then brew another clone (after tasting your current one) with modifications that you think will bring it closer to style. Or try one of the recipes on here. If you frig with your brew now I reckon you'll just spoil it...bellboys backyard brew wrote:Should I panic? Relax and have a homebrew? Dry Hop? Late Hop? Anything?

Re: James Squires Amber Ale
Looks great man. I bought myself a Morgans Royal Oak Amber Ale can the other day, but I don't have any amber malt extract, so I think I'll try a partial. I think I'll hop it a bit differently to let the malt shine a bit:collapoo wrote:This is always a hit with my mates, and even the ladies. It's damn close to the original!
