Not Happy!!

Over a year ago i signed up for the rental on a gas bottle through the grain and grape for my keg setup, the cost for rental per year was $18 plus the standard fill price and ( through no fault of the grain and grape) just this week i have found out that Air liquide have raised the rental from $18 to a stagerring $ 129.47 per year which i think is just downright rude in comparison so i am left with 3 options.

1 keep paying the rediculously high price that they want!
2 Go for a kegs on legs bottle that you pay around $300 for upfront but you own
3 Give up the kegs and go back to bottling ( not such a favoured option but one i must consider)

So a bit of advice boys, who here has delt with kegs on legs and how good are they?
Who has been put in the same predicement as me recently?

I coughed up. Switching to MyKegsOnLegs should be bloody easy though, just go to G&G, drop off one bottle, pay $300, pick up another. I guess it all depends how long you're going to be kegging for. I may be going OS soon which is why I stuck with the rental, but if I can tell anything from your forum posts, it's that you love kegging. I can't see you quitting within the next two years!

No not likely, i might just return the bottle and fork out the $300 and be done with it, i just got onto Air Liquide head office and had a bitch ( not sure what will come of that) and the guy said he would get back to me tomorrow so ill wait to see what happens there but it is looking like the kegs on legs may be the only economical option, with the rental going the way it is i would pay for my own bottle in a couple of years anyway which i think is what you were gettin at rwh

Which adds up to much the same price as Air Liquide, except you're paying monthly instead of annually.

Have you guys seen the 500gm ozito co2 bottles in bunnings for inflating tyres and things like that i think they are $74 to buy and 14 to exchange so its basicaly twice the gas of a soda stream bottle for around the same price i get a gas and dispence per 50 litre keg from one bottle which takes about a month to drink so $14 is like the boc rental and i get free gas.

Here in adelaidei pay $13 a month for a 9kg bottle i wish i could pay $18 a year tho!!!!

Just my 2 cents worth,

I use Supagas, the monthy rental is $9.35 fo a 10kg cylinder and ~$51.00 for the refill. I've had this bottle for just over 2 years now and is still going (a refill will be soon).

The main advantage for me was you ringt hem for a refill and they bring the bottle to you. I have heard but can't confirm that they are no longer renting to homebrewers. I know it is cheeper in the long run to go the kegs on legs way, but $300.00 in one hit is hard.

When i bought my font setup the bloke thru in a 10kg CO2 bottle. The only catch is i have to go back to him to fill it up since it has a BOC label on it. $50 a fill seems like a fair deal to me.

Consider that when you rent a cylinder, you never have to buy a new one.

I don't know how long the cylinder you buy will last, but when it goes out of date or whatever, you get to buy it all over again.

The price increase from AL is pretty steep, but I reckon that it is still fairly cheap for gas if you use a lot of it. I use about 100grams per month, so it is SodaStream for me.

Kegs on legs is like a swap and go so although you buy the bottle every time you change it you get a different one or at least this is what john from the G&G told me

Well, well, well....Paid mine in full when I picked it up and now BOC have sent me an invoice 2 months after I paid for it.....typical.

I'm liking this kegging, so Kegs on legs will be next for sure....should've listened

Excuse the ignorance, im a little confused.. I currently "rent" through BOC, paying quarterly. I have been looking a the Kegs on Legs option - $300 approx. Can someone explain how kegs on legs work - for example, when my gas runs out, how much do i pay when i go back to the brew shop for a "swap and go"?

i've been doing a little research as i know that kegging for me is inevitable...

theres a place down the road called Beertech, and they sell 6kg bottles for $350 (i think that includes a full tank), and 50 bucks refill, very similar to kegs on legs it seems. Does this sound like a reasonable price? they reckon that its good for 500L

The other option i found was BOC who charge 10.30 + GST for monthly rental, and 30.39+ GST to fill... plus 10 dollars handling fee (to cover the dangerous good license).

I guess buying the keg would pay for itself after a few years just alot of money up front.

With the keg on legs you don't have to get the bottle re tested when it goes out of date as you just swap it.
It would make it the cheaper option

Ahh sorry, didn't read it right.

I'd buy the bottle if you can afford it.
I hate paying rental on anything except a tuxedo.
