BPV? its like being drunk without drinking...

Post by James L »

Guys...

i've just experienced one of the worst weekends for quite some time.. I woke up on saturday morning with the whole room spinning, and it wouldnt stop... the sad thing was i hadnt had anything to drink the night before. I ended up with this spinning sensation like i've just come off a spinning playground roundabout, and had headaches all weekend and therefore couldnt (wasnt allowed to) drink or do much at all.

Went to the doctors and he said it was Benign Positional Vertigo.. it comes and goes, but isnt permanent. It is a imbalance of fluid or a blockage in the inner ear Its just like being drunk without drinking... its bloody terrible... headache, dizzyness and inability to keep balance and worst of all nausea...

has anyone else ever been through this? apparently everyone experiences it at least once in their lifetime...

You have my sympathy. Hope you recover soon.
I've never had it without alcohol being the cause.

Though I think Roger jests. I had this problem and a haulistic friend of my mothers used a warm saline fluid to irrigate my sinuses and ears and it worked for me. I do it myself when I feel the pressure builkding and it does help. It is a small teapot looking thing and you pour it into one nostral and let it drain out the other. You use the same solution to irrigate the ear canal with one of those baby snot suckers. I forget the exact recipe for the solution but I believe it is just bicarb and epsom salt. I can find out if you like.
Prost and happy brewing!

Yep, I have had this (or something similar). I get it very often when I try and sleep on my right side (yes, strange I know. It must be to do with my ears). Although, its nothing worrying compared to my damn sleep paralysis :(

Yep, I had it about 12 months ago - lasted a couple of months, i felt like sh**. :( I went to the doc and he gave me some exercises to do, like tilting my head forward, backward, side to side and sit ups which all seemed to help. About a month later, one of my good mates comes up to me and says "I woke up in this morning with the spins..." he's my age too - wheather that makes a difference or not. Good luck with it mate, it'll go soon :D

Man, that is honestly the craziest thing I have ever heard about. I read about this a couple of years ago. I have a friend whose husband gets it. She packs herself when she sees him get it - because he can see this dark figure, and once she swears she saw the same figure he sees duck out the door....

If I ever get it, I swear I will have a heart attack.

I though I was dying, or actually dead when I first started getting it (about 12 or 13 years old I think). Because I was completely conscious, and could even see around the room, but I couldn't move any part of my body, and couldn't break out of it. The only thing that made me think otherwise was that I could still breathe, and last time I checked dead people don't breathe.

One of the best things that ive noticed so far is that you drink and you dont feel pissed because you are so used to feeling like that anyways, so you just feel normal... I guess that can get a bit out of control.

Do you find that it flares up the morning after a couple of beers or a night out on the turps?

I dont want my G/F to have an excuse for me to not drink....

Hardly- I don`t like to guess when it comes to my health.
Just a bit of grit in the old eye that somehow aggravated other regions.
But thanks for asking :)
