In the states I had what we call and "Escort" same as your Laser here. Anyway I owned a GT version of the Escort with a 3.6L V6 and it hammered pretty well. People here don't seem to believe that either an Escort or Laser could be a fairly sporty sedan :P

You're right, I don't

3.6L V6 in a 1-1.1 Tonne car would go pretty good.....in theory anyway

Probably like the Straight Six 3.3L, L J Torana with Triple's....surprisingly quick for a 6, and nimble.

Geez, Boonie, and here's me thinking you were an upwardly mobile young money manager, but instead you are showing your age with a 70's car...

If you`ve got a spare 30 grand, just get yourselves a Studebaker Golden Hawk and forget the kiddy kars.
If you haven`t got the 30, just google a pic. of one and you1ll know what a real car looks like

you're probably thinking of the Mk 5 or Mk 5b - 2L turbo AWD pocket rocket.

i looked up the studebaker ryan, that's a sweet looking classic..

Boonie, i have a mate with an LJ with the 2.85L (173ci) on straight gas.. goes faster on straight gas than it ever did on petrol

my new car, 3.5L Magna, leaves it for dead tho mwahaha

and finally - having just realised - Timmsy, my sincere apologies for driving your thread COMPLETELY off topic - although that in itself could be a "success"

What's the uncoolest car anyone can come up with? How about the Morris Marina from the 1970's?

 I'm a 71 model.....Never had an LJ XU1 but have been in one, my grandfather owned an SLR5000 L34, I also owned and SLR5000 but not the L34, he gave me the bug  see tappethead. I love the old aussie musclecars.

I reckon my genuine SLR would have given you a run for the money Keg  I beat a Brock VK group A, Flogged a VP 3.8 V6, GT Falcon, 6 pack Val (it was quick), amongst many in my silly driving years, only car to beat me was a 65 Falcon with a supercharger  , man I had him for 300 metres

Mind you, these new cars are fantastically quick. I owned a VZ 3.6 and crikey didn't it go well.

My SLR had a top speed of 180 as it was all low geared  for dragging.

I do not condone dragging in any way I was just young and stupid like all the others on the road now......We had a spot in an industrial area, Koorangang Island, well known in Newcastle, where we used to drag well away from suburbia....Still dangerous but safer than in a 60 zone.

My favourite cars I have driven/been in Genuine A9X hatchback and sedan and a two door 77 Falcon 351.

Sorry to hijack the thread, love my cars

Cheers

In a way the P76 was kinda cool. The Targa version had an all alloy V8. Also, you could fit a 44 gallon drum in the boot and still close the lid. Also, and this may be a myth, you could drive it with just 3 wheels on, but I might be getting mixed up with a Citroen DS19.

I drove my mates mum's XD Ghia 351, very noice indeed, power and comfort

Na, yours was too heavy, power to weight ratio 8) .....oooh them's fighting words, dem is

When it tore the Torana a bigger asshole TL, was that so that I could shite all over the Falcon easier

The LH Torana's won in 75-76, XD 5.8 litre once and then it was called off............just stirring TL

Actually, you soung like a Falcon fan / tappethead too, the guy up the road owned a 4.9 litre ESP XE beautiful black immaculate....drool 8)

Ahhh the good old days! I must confess that loved the SLR....such a nice unit.

I bought the XD in a repossession sale - it had long range tanks because the district nurses used to drive this V8 monster around the countryside and some revhead muscled it up but couldn't afford the payments!! I liberated it and my cousin (an excellent Ford mechanic) gave it balls!

I got booked by the boys in blue when I took it for a bloody test drive!!

I wonder where it's gone now? sigh....more beer.

I know what you mean.........I just wish I'd had room to keep mine somewhere stored, sold it and it is now worth 5 times what I sold it for

Even worse, I could have bought a genuine A9X hatchback for 14.5k in 1991, now worth 100k+

Cheers

hahaha quite probably, it's got 2 extra cylinders, 1500cc more, and how much less weight? the magna's a barge, just short of 1500kg

that said, it'll dead set thrash a VP 3.8L.. will lose slightly to a VY through first and catch up through mid-high second then overtake. it's all about the drivetrain loss once you're rolling i reckon.. a RWD will take it off the line easily, but it catches up with less moving mass pretty surprisingly
