Holiday from brewing

Post by rwh »

Hi all,

Thought I'd let you know why I haven't been on here much recently. My brewing activities have been somewhat curtailed, and will probably stay that way for a month or two. I guess the two lagers in my brew fridge are going to get an "extended" lager lol.

Was skiing in NZ. The snow over there is absolute shite this year, 20-30cm while I was there (at the same time there was around 130cm at most Aussie resorts).

Anyway, we traveled around to several different fields, and on our last day were skiing at a tiny club resort (Broken River) that had the worst snow we'd seen. They basically only opened the resort because there were two groups of Aussies staying there (we were a group of 13, and there was another group of 4), though the resort was officially closed.

Anyway, the one rope tow that was open took you up onto the top of the ridge, where there was a bit of frosty powder which mostly covered up the rocks, so you could get in a few good turns. However, the bottom half of the run was a valley that was really tussocky (big clumps of grass stuff). A friend of mine was down below near the bottom of the lift and I thought it'd be a good idea to do a big jump. It was NOT a good idea... as I was coming up to do the jump, I lost a ski in one of the tussocks, and because I was going so fast and it was so tussocky, I had no chance of regaining control, so I face planted, and hit my shoulder on something (probably another tussock) and shattered my collar bone into four pieces.

Not my favourite day on the fields, though it's not as bad as the day I broke my leg skiing.

Get well soon, they look like nasty breaks. Hope you have enough stock of HB to tide you over during your recovery.

Get well soon, hope you're a better brewer than skier
May be your next brew should be a tussock stout or a clavicle Koelsch!

Get well soon.

I shattered my ankle in much the same way, though the snow I was on was called "ice" by everyone on the hill. We may as well have skated down

I have also broken my collar bone so I can sympathise mate! They say it is worse than ribs :?
Prost and happy brewing!

yeah best wishes, i did my hand on an unintended jump. it was either do the jump or wipe out 20 of the ski school at high speed on a blind corner of a creek where IMO i don't think they should have been. i actually landed the jump which was by far my biggest to date but s#&t myself in the process and locked up on landing thus entering into a snow gymnastics routine busting my hand in the process. Great entertainment though for the 20 five year olds. they pissed themselves laughing.
when talking to a fool, make sure they aren't doing the same

Ya poor bugger. As long as you can still type and pour a beer to drink.
Good luck, take it easy.

Yikes!!

I've been away from the forums for about three months (aside from a couple of random posts) and I have no excuse.

Hope it heals well and you're fit for next season mate.

Nasty mate, hope the Doc prescribed you a few HBs each day with plenty of sympathy/attention from the other half.......

I was going to say milk it for all its worth but reckn with that sort of break you wont need to.

Hope it heals soon and you can get back into the brewing asap.

Cheers
