Black Rock Cider recipe- questions and tips?

Post by thisispants »

Hi....got the recipe for the black rock cider off here...number 35>

I've just got a couple of questions....

1. Can you get Lactose from any homebrew store?

2. When putting the apples into a stocking so as to not clog the fermenter tap, what sort of stocking do I use and where do I get one?

And I had a look at my brew store a few days ago and they didnt have glucose...only dextrose.

glucose and dextrose are the same thing

you should be able to get lactose from your brew shop and if you can't they can probably get it from somewhere.

stockings that women wear just use one leg and save the other for you next batch.

i don't know where you could get them but you could just ask a lady

lactose can be bought at any (half decent) homebrew store, and then some hardware stores and supermarkets along with the limited homebrew supplies they carry. Try the homebrew store though, they definitely will have it.

As for stockings, any supermarket. Dont forget to boil the stockings in hot water to get rid of that nasty stocking taste and sterilise them

Could corn syrup be used instead of glucose or dextrose?

No: it's only 30% fermentable or so. Dextrose is pretty much 100% fermentable.
