i've been forced off the booze

ok so the UNIMAGINABLE has happened!

i just got the results of a blood test back today (been feeling sick for 2 weeks or so) and it's not good. I have glandular fever, tonsillitis, some sort of iron deficiency and my liver has also packed it in (it's not due to alcohol abuse, rather a side-effect of the glandular fever)

so for at least a month I have to stay completely away from the booze. this time next month i go for another blood test and then they'll decide if i'm ok to start drinking again. plus there's a heap of other shit i have to start doing... like eating properly, taking vitamins etc.

all in all i feel royally f---ed over about now. post sympathy here please, fellow beer-lovers! haha

ohhh man that SUCKS. i've got another mate with liver issues, so while i haven't experienced it first hand, i'm aware of your pain!

in the meantime, get yourself a nice big fat juicy steak and get that iron intake happening

No good, i've got a queer liver. Thought it was due to alcohol but i'm just one in x amount that have an odd liver.

not enough booze - you do have to travel to england to get this doctor however - and of course that means english beer - so as with everything in life there is a price to pay

Sounds like an English witch doctor Pyssedas. But don't bag Pommy beer.
Like all countries, England has its good, bad, ugly and indifferent beers.

Am planning on returning to my birthplace in the UK within the next twelve months, where I will hopefully sample some great beers. The homeplace of presently brewed Marstons, Burton Bridge, Bass Pale Ale IPA (my late dad worked at Bass just before the outbreak of WW2), and William Worthington's White Shield IPA, to name but a few. Last time I looked, at any rate. Things change so quickly that label details become quickly outdated.

I am referring to the brewing town of Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire. At one stage the "brewing capital of the world", subsequently downgraded to "brewing capital of UK", and probably downgraded again to who knows what. Nevertheless, some great beers still come out of, what one of my rellies once described as, "that one horse dump".

So go regional Pyssedas. Don't drink swill, drink class. By all accounts there is plenty available to those who make the effort.

Will post when my itinerary is sorted. Who knows, might be able to meet up with you Pyssedas, or fellow posters.

Spent 3mths in England a few years ago, coulda and shoulda stayed longer. Loved it. Was staying in Kent, just out of Canterbury. Herne Hill.
Shepherd Neame was the big brewery there back then.
Half chook and 2 pints for lunch each day was the norm as pub was less than 100 mts away from where i worked.

Ah im glad to say that i have made it back to sunny Melbourne, but to be sure there is some fine beer over there

but then there were many fine German beers too...
