Hi All
Long time lurker first time poster.
First up a big thank you to all the advice I have read on the site. Saved me from a couple of horrendous stuff ups.
This is my fourth batch of home brew ever. Got a coopers kit for my B/day late last year.
Tooheys Dark 1X1.7kg can
corn syrup 300gm
Dex 250gm
DDME 500gm
Toasted crystal? 500gm steeped at 70c for about an hour.
Willamette hops 10gm with 5min to go on the boil
15gm dry hopped.
Yeast added at 20 deg C what was under the lid(2 packets). I know, I will get something better next time.
Made up to 21 litres.
Still too new at this to know what the real name of the grain was.
The smell when I finally got it all in the fermenter is to die for. O.G was 1048.
No action in the fermenter until about 16 hours after I added the yeast. I can say that I was getting real nervous until I saw the first little bubble. Kicking along fine now. Batch is sitting at 18-20 deg C
Does the Tooheys yeast normally take that long to kick off.
If the grain tastes half as good as it smells I will be using it a lot more in future.
Again thanks for the great advice. I will let you know what it tastes like in a couple of months.

Don,

I prefer the Coopers Dark Ale kit, having tried Morgans Australian Old and Tooheys Dark Ale, I think the Coopers actually tastes better and a bit closer to the Tooheys Old flavour.
Brownie.

Thanks for the link Brownie. It will be sitting near the top of ones to try next.
Have done the Morgans with a stout mix from the local home brew shop in the past and was very pleased with it. The tooheys can was given to me by my dad. Probably would not have even considered it myself after looking at some of the reviews on here. But since I had it sitting in the cupboard thought I would give it a shot. Heres hoping.
