Canadian Blonde SG Readings

Post by Jasn »

Would the addition of coopers brew enhancer 1 make the SG readings higher? Dont quite know what kind of sugars in the brew enhancer? Its been fermenting for a week today. Thinkin about bottleing them in 2 days regardless of SG readings?

Yes, addition of 1kg brew enhancer 1 will raise your start gravity from about 1.025 to about 1.040 or lower (depends on initial volume). That's compared to if you use the Canadian Blonde kit alone, i.e. without sugar.

Your final gravity will also be raised from what you normally get because the brew enhancer contains dextrose and maltodextrin. The maltodextrin doesn't ferment out fully and will therefore give you a higher FG, plus better body and mouthfeel, than if you used dextrose alone.

What is your final gravity. Should be about 1.008-1.015 and shouldn't have changed with two readings 24 hours apart. If it is then bottle. If not, then you may have not had fermentation. Which is another kettle of fish.

Thanks for your help, was just a little confused. Just guessing but, having a higher FG reading, that would mean lower alcohol content?

Yeah. The higher the FG reading relative to the SG reading, the less alcohol in your brew. Also the higher the FG, the more full bodied the brew.
But you should still wait till it has been fermented completely out. Which according to "Guest" should be around 1.008-1.015. Otherwise you could end up with exploding bottles.
