Twist Tops
I have been using long neck twist tops when bottling my brews as I have enough for around 3 brews (currently only have around 15 crown seal longy's). I have been using a handcapper with the bottles placed on a thick cork base to absorb the shock. I have had no problems with any crown seal bottles using this capping method, however each time I have bottled twistys I have had on average 2 breakages per batch. I also find that the twisty's require a great deal more force to cap then the crown seals. I have read on this forum about some of you using bench cappers with twist tops. I was wonder if you guys have any breakages using this method because from my experience it takes a great deal more force to cap a twist top. I am thinking of going back to 375 ml crown seal bottles until I can get hold of some longys.
You'll get sick of using that hammer bottle capper eventually, may as well just buy a bench capper. I used a hammer capper for the first time last week. I don't have a heavy duty wood working table so I found myself having to crouch down on the floor , hammer the caps on, stand up again, bottle next beer, crouch down again, hammer beer etc etc etc.
I only did 10 bottles than went across the road and got some coopers plastic pete bottles, and decided I'd never ever touch one those hammering bottle toppers again in my life. I was in pain the next day from all the crouching, but then again i'm old.

I use coopers P.E.T and the only difference i can see is ease of bottling, just twist a cap on and your done rather than having to use a capperazaj wrote:hello. i have myself long necks, but i was just wondering if there is much difference between bottling in glass rather than plastic bottles. even tho i will be drinking from pots...

You love your plastic Lethallethaldog wrote:I use coopers P.E.T and the only difference i can see is ease of bottling, just twist a cap on and your done rather than having to use a capperazaj wrote:hello. i have myself long necks, but i was just wondering if there is much difference between bottling in glass rather than plastic bottles. even tho i will be drinking from pots...

I have about 200+ Crown Seals 200+ Twisties (Longies) + 180 Stubbies that are all crown seal and they all take about 1.2 seconds to cap, then sip, Cap, Sip, you know the routine.

pure_stoke , I used to use the hand style, but they cracked the twisties.

I have 2 cappers and the Super-automatica is best, which I purchased on ebay.

PS Sell the hand capper on ebay.......people love them for crown seals in the kitchen etc....

A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.

Ease of bottling, I bottled off my ginger beer in these bottles, ended up with a blister right in the palm of my hand from doing them up

I sure do boonie, i also have about 8 slabs of stubbies and about 5 dozen glass longies that i rarelly use any more, dont have to buy caps all the time, no need to even have a capper ( although because i still use my stubbies i have a handjobBoonie wrote:You love your plastic Lethallethaldog wrote:I use coopers P.E.T and the only difference i can see is ease of bottling, just twist a cap on and your done rather than having to use a capperazaj wrote:hello. i have myself long necks, but i was just wondering if there is much difference between bottling in glass rather than plastic bottles. even tho i will be drinking from pots...![]()

Yeah the caps for the Plastics are dearer, but re-usable. I am getting 100 Crown Caps for 1.55 on special. Looks funny walking to register with 15 bags of capslethaldog wrote:dont have to buy caps all the time, no need to even have a capper ( although because i still use my stubbies i have a handjobBoonie wrote:You love your plastic Lethallethaldog wrote:I use coopers P.E.T and the only difference i can see is ease of bottling, just twist a cap on and your done rather than having to use a capperazaj wrote:hello. i have myself long necks, but i was just wondering if there is much difference between bottling in glass rather than plastic bottles. even tho i will be drinking from pots...![]()

PS Sell the hand capper on ebay.......people love them for crown seals in the kitchen etc....) despite all the contraversy about bottling in plastic i have never noticed any flavour or body difference at all:

The plastics I have used, 1.5 Litre softdrink, have generally housed my "smelly" beers that I knew were off.

I also did 2 quality beers in plastic and you are right, the heads were fine, but as mine were clear, I had to keep in the dark

Each to thier own i suppose, i have nothing against either but i also sometimes come home and crack one, pour out one glass and then have to piss off for a while, screw the lid back on and next time you open it its still nice and carbed
Oh and if your wondering about my last post, i thought that one should probably be left alone but your welcome to it if you like boonie

I'd be doing glass if I get a handjob with every bottle
