Hey all, just wondering whether most of you Gents (and Ladies) have access to a VOIP server to discuss Beer stuff? Seems like alot of you know each other, is that via forums only or do you taste test each others brews for experience ???????

Hey all, just wondering whether most of you Gents (and Ladies) have access to a VOIP server to discuss Beer stuff? Seems like alot of you know each other, is that via forums only or do you taste test each others brews for experience ???????

Chris is in Canberra and I am in Newcastle. 4-5 hours away. We would love to taste-test the HB's but all we can do is offer recipes and our personal opinions of each hop, can, malts, sugars and "this is how I do it" stuff.

I thought I knew everything I needed to know, but these guys have hints and tips for all.

Boonie, try to find a HB club in your area. I don't know of one in Newcastle, but there could be. They usually meet once a month, and it is a good chance to exchange recipes, techniques, and more importantly- BEER.

I speak to a $hitload of friends in real time over an internet connection both interstate and overseas (ADSL, you pay for your rental of the line but aslong as you dont exceed your monthjy quotas you can chat as long as u want) VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol or it stands for speak to ya mates interstate or overseas without paying for it

I'll ask at my local HB shop.

The one in Mayfield, he has his own label and James Blundell singing on his ads

He makes a beer called Pig Iron, which is at my local club and tastes like my HB. If you see it on tap, try it...nice beer.

I go to an annual "Beer appreciation Night", love that title. But these guys mainly taste the "world of beers", not HB.

Oh, it's one of those computer things. That's not beer, so I don't care

I have heard of it before, but didn't know the acronym.

And I do recommend hooking up with other brewers, you learn a LOT.

Well as i have found, there are so many questions, (from me it is only questions) and so many answers in the fine art of Home Brewing, but it is hard to ask a stupid question and have it cast in stone in the forums than what it would be to ask it as a passing comment in real time . I just thought that if people could ask questions in real time that they might ask more and benefit from it.

True, I have held back before because I thought it was too stupid a question . Having said that if you mentioned VOIP, there may have been deafening silence

That's why you join a HB club! There are lots of good ones in Melbourne. I was with the Westgate Brewers- a good lot of people.

I know of HS Shops, not clubs, i didnt realise there were HB clubs, as i am new to this

Hi Anzac,

now that you mention it, I do use VOIP, but not for homebrew related things as my homebrewing friends (Cat and rwh plus a few others not on this forum) are all at Uni.

Usually I use Skype to talk to Dad when he's OS or interstate. The price is great (free if it's computer to computer), and even if you want to call a landline, it's only about 1c a minute!
