is there a class or a shop that runs classes or teaching on how to start the h/b hobbie.
i have purchased the gear from the internet(ebay).
i would like to learn from somebody who has done this for many years.
maybe even go further and make the stuff from scratch(mash).after i have learnt the first steps from the can(kit).
i know i can read a book or read info of the net.but there is nothing like learning from a hands on experience.
i live in sydney(st george shire).
any help would be realy appreciated.

You would probably learn just as much by searching this forum, although noone here can actually demonstrate the procedure, if you just spend a bit of time studying this site and ask any question you want to know and the good folk here will be glad to walk you through it, at the end of the day its realy not that hard

Some homebrew shops do full mash demonstrations. I know grain and grape do, though they're in melbourne.

Go talk to your local hombrew shop guy. He'll get you started and you can refine your technique by reading posts on here. Take all advice in and then you can make what you want from it.

Welcome, go to Coopers site for basics as they have an Instruction manual for starters.....

http://www.coopers.com.au/homebrew/makeBeer.php

I wish I had found this site when I started. Just listen to the boys for basics and when you want to mash, listen some more.

The basics for home brew is sterilisation and good brews. The boys here have some great recipes for euro tasting, and general great tasting beers.

I am still learning after 2 years, so do not be shy and ask as many questions, even if you feel that they may be silly, as we have all been in you position b4.

Welcome once more to the world of Homebrew

thanks for all the replies.
anybody purchased from esb beer at peakhurst, are they helpfull?
what is this wort kit?is it easy to use?rather than can stuff, would the quality be better?
one quick question,also.
would it be better to prime in another carboy, rather than in bottles?
then transfer straight into bottles.
also would it be better to syphon from the top rather than from the tap.
when emtying the carboy?
thanks.

1st question, no to peakhurst, I'm in Newcastle..NFI.
2nd question Can is easier for starters/beginners. Once you get serious about flavour and aromas go the whole hog. Don't know what they classify as "wort kit" More info required. More than likely, better than can!!
3rd Question Are you talking Bulk Priming IE Transfer brew to new Carboy with correct amount of sugar with approx 180 grams of dextrose/sugar (whatever you prefer).
4th question, If you have a tap, use it. With syphoning you may hit the cake at the bottom and your beer will be chunky.
As long as you have an sediment reduceron the tap, all will be ok.

Have a search in the forum for bulk priming - It`ll save you a heap of effort priming each bottle and give you more consistent carbonation

Cheers

i thought if you syphon with a tube that has a u shape on the bottom, there would be less likely to disturbe the sedment on the bottom?is this true.
also the wort kits, are they worth the $35 they sell for, over cans?as they say the wort kit is as closes thing to mash, other doing than doing the mash.
is this right.
