Munton's kits

Post by Gaunnyno »

Hey

Just going to brew my first brew - woo! how excitement!!

Bought a Munton's Kit (17litre, Scottish heavy ale) & it just says to add sugar to the fermenter but doesn't say how much. Any Ideas?

Cheers

Don't use any sugar, use malt with some 'safale' yeast try to keep it fermenting @ 20C and you won't be disapointed.

Deffinately dont use normal white sugar as hillbilly said use some light dried malt which you can get from any homebrew store, amount you would want to use would be 1 kg unless useing liquid malt which would be 1.5 kg.

A little amount of dextrose wouldn't be bad in a heavy ale. Too much malt could be too cloying. A coopers brew enhancer, or similar mix of malt & dex/sucrose, would be my choice.
I'd be guessing 1kg would be around the amount you'd want to use for a heavy ale @ 17L.

So it wasn't a 2 tin kit?

I would still go with 1kg of dried malt.
