How many Brews have you done without infection?

Yeah, I usually soak the tap.

After cleaning the taphole, I screw a bung in and part-fill the fermenter with steriliser and throw all my cleaned things in there. Airlock, filling pipe, tap, etc, etc...

I have been doing same with all the kit in the fermenter, but when I had a look at the tap, saw it was ripe to get gunk in it in the long term - and i'd have to give myself a monster kicking if I spoiled a brew.

When I had the infection, I still drank the beer. Tasted foul, but still got me pissed

We must be related. I has some warm Cascade PA the other day - bombs were going off - I added a can of lemonade and the compression was immense. Glass everywhere. So I eased the caps off, recapped and drank 2 warm ones.

This really surprised me. I hate warm beer like everyman, but hey - this stuff ain't VB!

And it did the job.

And If I get an infection, I'll make extra effort to drink them first.

Absolutely, IC...

Anything is better than VB, even infected brew.

I don't know what sort of bug I had in there, but we had just moved into a new house. I stored the bottles in the spare room. You can understand my wife's despair on seeing the exploded bottles on the new carpet.

The next brew didn't smash any bottles and I threw out the last one. Just couldn't stomach the smell.

Your right about VB - warm or infected hombrew is better by miles. But if you do have to neck a few tallies for the bottles, consider it a crusade for silica.

Once honour is restored, we can rest easy, and watch airlocks.

I just started a thread about what weapon you use to fire your homebrew in the general discussion - I'd like get a bigger glass, me.!

But I love tallies - even with sediment - i'd be lost without it!

Longnecks - 750ml (few new 800ml getting around)

I have collected a few from ex-brewers and hard work on my own part

I haven't even heard my latest one burp. It's down in my Man-Shed. It smelt good the other day. Good enough for me. The SG & FG are academic for me. I'm using the force.

I saw a great show on SBS tonite about making old school wooden barrels... too cool

I fell on good luck last night. A mate moved from round the corner in Preston down to Hobart twelve months ago, and bequeathed a bunch of junk to me. Just last night it occurred to me that there were bottles amongst the stuff.

2 NT Draught Darwin Stubbies (2.25L) to be exact.

I only wish there were more.

The irony is that I lost any chance at God by going to Boarding School, and tasting homemade bourbon!
