Adding pride of ringwood

Post by unicamrep »

Hi,
I added pride of ringwood to my current brew, but I think I might have stuffed up :?
I added the hops after toping up the water to 23 litres, I didn't think much of it at the time but I'm starting to think it should've been boiled a little bit or at least added to the hot wort before topping up with cold water.
Can anyone let me know?
Thanks.

No problem, boiling would have helped to prevent possible contamination and also to release aroma, if boiled for a short period.

Unless you look to have an infection ( unlikely due to the hops addition) DONT WORRY, and have a beer.

You should boil POR for 60 min, they are a bittering hop rather than a flavour or aroma hop. It won't pooch your brew, just won't do much for it either

Occording to a lot of the datasheets I have POR can be used for flavour and aroma... just not much of it...
Fermenting: Responsibly American Brown (Drink Responsibly) My first AG!
Bottled: Fuggles Larger/ale, Honey I'm Home Ale, Entropy Wheat, Dark Matter Ale, The Beer that Should Not Be (IPA)

Quite right MHD you can use POR for aroma, but only if it is very fresh. It seems to impart a crisper taste and nicer aroma when used asap after drying. But as a bittering hop it is very good in all Australian type beers as you well know.
