First Brew is Flat Beer

Post by Beer Krout »

Hi Guys

My first brew finally ... finally ... finally hit the two week mark in the bottle.
Of course I was pretty keen to chill it, rip the top off and get stuck in.
As you guessed from the subject heading ... flat.
The second one I tried had a little fizz, but was essentially the same.
Looks like it needs several more weeks in the bottle.

Oh well ... no homebrew for Christmas.

I put the correct amount of dex in most and those coopers carbonation drops in others. Will try the bulk priming soon.

I have stored it in a cupboard in the sun room (lots of windows facing north). That room is the hottest in the house and we've had some quite warm days in Melb over the last two weeks.

So after reading about Oliver and Geoff's words regarding their half measures and sometimes lack of priming. I thought I'd be right??

Oh well live and learn.

Is there anything else that keeps them flat?
Is there anyway of gassing them up for Xmas?
I think I know the answer to that one

Have a great and merry Christmas and genuinely red faced after drink lots of homebrew happy New Year.

Cheers

I know what happened to my brew. :)

It's so simple.

It's those evil beer witches again.

BK,

I think you'll be right.

Give it a bit more time in the bottle and it should be fine.

Cheers,

When it'cold I use a 15 watt light bulb in an old fridge. Regulate the temp by opening the door a bit if too hot ect.
Works every time.

Yep..I did the Paley in early October..did the same thing..ripped off the top and flat as a tack.

I went and bought some more brew stuff to make another but all my bottles were still full and I haven't been home for the time I need to it, so it just sat there.

Moving to Jan and I read this thread and on Oliver's advice, went home and checked the brew box and one of the bottles had smashed.

Took out a couple, chilled them and I now have a first class Pale Ale that looks and tastes the goods.

Got satisfaction when on Saturday night some mates came over and we got a few bottles chilled and stared drinking them and ran out and I didn't have any cold ones. I did have a six pack of Sparkling Ale and gave them one of those and they complaned that I didn't have any home brew cold!
