What's Your Weakness?

Post by Beerpig »

Is it possible to walk into Dan Murphy's & not walk out with at least a few Grolsch swing tops?

Also purchased my first 6 pack of Pilsner Urquell, very much looking forward to tasting it while watching the sun set this evening

What's your weakness?

DJs in Newcastle Mall has a great range of beer, both international and Australian.

Every time I'm there (usually on a shopping trip with the missus) I just can't resist making my own six pack of lovelies for $20-25 (usually rich strong ales). This works out Ok for everyone involved because we're usually buying for her and It's just not fair going home without a treat for myself.

Cheers,
Jay.

After posting this http://www.homebrewandbeer.com/forum/vi ... php?t=1208 a few months back, I've come to really enjoy Hoegaarden and find it difficult to walk out of a bottleshop without picking up a four-pack.

EDIT: My original criticism of Hoegaarden's goes down as yet another "bad call" on my behalf, along with:

1. "I really just can't get into stouts"
2. "This Beez Neez isn't so bad"
3. "Crownies are a pretty nice drop"
4. "I don't mind the occasional cold VB on a hot day"

Good call

I like Coopers Sparkling out of the bottle.

Had some Becks the other day that was K, Tuborg has been good to me in the past, not so good now though, Sapporo, Ice Cold quarts of Molson Canadian or even better, cans, so cold your brain hurts when you drink them. Whatever they sell on tap at Pizza Hut with that ice cold glass

Speaking of which I best call the missus to put one in the freezer

Looking at my list I am not very fussy am I.

Dogger,

Don't you find that really cold beer numbs your taste buds and then you can't taste it?

That's the basis of my theory as to why so many poor lagers are drunk "ice cold."

Wise man once said, there is no such thing as a bad beer. It's just some are better than others.

Me I am a man of simple tastes. Tooheys Old out of a schooner glass takes a lot of beating IMHO. That said Cascade Premium and Boags Premium take a lot of beating outta the bottle as does an icey cold Crownie on a hot day.

But best of all is a cold home brew anywhere. I was at an engagement party on Saturday night and took along 8 longnecks of brew for the father in law and myself and after drinking a couple of Crownies, a Blue Tongue lager and a (YUCK) Carlton Draught I went onto my home brew and decided it was better than all of the commercial brews.

My ability to walk out of Dan Murphys without carrying a nice sixpack (or a good bottle of wine for that matter) is an equal mix of an iron will, and being an unemployed student

My biggest weakness is coming home from work and going straight to the fridge.

Commercially, gotta be the Pales, Coopers and Little Creatures.

We just moved and now there is an IGA around the corner from us that has coopers spark longnecks...

Now that I have a secondary use for the bottles it is going to be even harder to resist...

Nice cold schooner of St Peters Premium Blonde.

Have any of you guys tried it? I drive all the way into Newtown from Sutherland atleast once a week (if not twice) to wrap my lips around a few blondes.

I've actually got one of the summer wheat fresh wort kits conditioning at the moment (this is the 15L drum that is Brewed and packaged by St Peters Brewery & Distributed by ESB). Hopefully its the same wort as the SPPB, and not a different recipe. I was extremely happy when taking a wiff of the airlock to find that it smelt almost the same as on tap. :P

Water added up to 20L.

Unfortunately mine is destined to be different, i had to put it down with a safale instead of a wheat yeast.

Stumbling upon this brew is what turned me onto Homebrewing.

most of my locals (newtown) have the blonde on tap.. i choose it over most tap beers when i'm out.

AP next time your in the area hunt down a bottle of the st peter's green star lager (a bottle conditioned, light, wheat lager).. if you like the blonde you'll more than likely like the star.. most pubs that have the blonde on tap will have the green star in their bottlo

Hunted down the Green star. She's a beaut drop, pretty well much the blonde in a bottle :P . DB, do you think that they are more or less the same, except of course, one being on tap, the other bottle conditioned?

I wouldn't mind trying my first cultivation with this, and putting it down with the summer wheat fresh wort.

nah. but theyre so close (one of the things that pisses me off about his beers - theyre sooo safe.. i wish he'd bust out with something big & bitter.. the guy can clearly brew good beer tho). the green star is not as clear as the blonde & i suspect it has a little more wheat than the blonde.. & i have had the greenstar on tap too (hand pumped at the nags - the st peters brewery put on 3 different kegs one friday nite once a month) side by side to the blonde there are slight differences. i'm pretty sure it was advertised as an organic wheat lager - if you dont have temp control it may not be the best time to try brewing with the yeast? i'm pretty sure it's not a wheat yeast but a lager yeast

I'm partial to coopers dr tims on a warm day,it tastes very similar to their old big barrel lager, which was taken off the market in the late 80's.Also can't go past carltons pure blonde on a hot day, it's pretty refreshing.
