Hi all, has anyone brewed an off the shelve, can Guinness type? If so the brand and what was it like. Any sneaky tips?

Bribie does a toucan headbanger stout which apparently rates quite well. I think its closer to a RIS so perhaps a little different to Guiness, probably better. I enjoyed the Coopers Irish Stout before going AG.

Here's a relatively simple kit and bits stout which I like very much. A little bit more complicated than strictly kit and kilo, but it is lovely to drink!

Vasodilator Stout – 1.6.2010 (a nod to rwh’s Cooper’s Best Extra Stout - recipe hereabouts somewhere....)
1.7kg can Coopers stout
2kg LDME
200g wheat malt extract
200g chocolate malt grain – steeped 45min
20 min boil, 3L with 500g LDME
25g Goldings hops at 20 min
Yeast-cake from previous brew pitched at 29°(originally re-cultured from a couple of Coopers Sparkling longies)
23 litres, OG 1.054
Bottled 7.7.2010, FG 1.018, ABV 5.3%

You could easily substitute an ale yeast from the homebrew shop. Homebrewing is addictive.

Earle, just to let you know I did emailed Bribie but no response as yet. I did state I wouldn't mind if he wanted to not pass on the recipe, that's ok.

My Guinness style stout based on BD's recipe above has now been in the fermenter for 17 days. It appears to still have good co2 cover. The og was 1.062 and today 1.024. Do you think leave another 7 days?

Had a bit of a search about and I think Bribie's recipe is 2 cans stout + 1kg LDME + 1kg dex. Apparently it came in the top half of the field in the national comp in 2009.

Hi all, could not wait to try the "Guinness" style brew based on Big Dave's recipe. Although just short of 2 weeks in the bottle what a taste. Sorry to sound bragging but just delicious! Understandable head a bit thin, but this drop say in 3 Months will be a ripper. Only brewed 15 litres so it will be like gold.
