there are a few vintage cellars around sydney that still have the golden ale.

As per where I got the coopers stout way over hear in P.E.I. someone gave me one when I was living in Calgary. Very good. Havn't seen it around here.

i know this probably means nothing to you guyes, as im in the uk.
but duchars ipa. its a scottish ale, its quite fruity and defonatly drinkable,
iv knobbled myself a few times on this stuff,
its hardly carbonated and refreshing but not sickly.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
may have to pop out for a few just now.

Aussie beer

1) James Squire Amber (on tap pref.)
2) Little Creatures Pale Ale
3) James Squire Pilsner
4) Carlton Draught (on tap only)
5) Mountain Goat Hight tail ale

Well I'll give it a go. So here are my favourite Aussie beers -

1. James Squire Amber Ale - Simply perfect at any time of year with any food or just to get drunk on. Just pips Coopers Sparkling for top spot.

2. Coopers Sparking - Absolutely a great beer. You gotta drink the sediment which makes all the difference.

3. Cascade Four Seasons or First Harvest - OK they are seasonal only and can differ emensely year on year but they are a pleasant surprise every time.

4. Little Creatures Pale Ale - I had the pleasant experience of first tasting this at the brewery and fell in love on the spot.

5. Toohey OLD - I know its a bit mainstream by comparison to the others on my list, but hey its a great beer to drink when you want something with a stronger and darker taste without having to chew on it (Guiness anyone?). And it doesnt give me bad hangovers like most mainstream beers.

Honorary mention -
* Coopers Special Old Stout (Which only missed the list because its hard to drink too many before you fall over).

And a final mention to all those great beers from so many of those small micro breweries and brew pubs from all over the country. Some of these beers are absolutely fabulous, if only we could get them everywhere! Many an hour has been spent sitting in a Brew Pub or Micro Brewery soaking up the scenery and the beer.

How does Coopers Sparkling compare to your local brews?

It is my pitiful opinion that Coopers Best Extra Stout is the best [edit: mass produced] beer brewed in Australia. If you must mail order from the US, do so. Make sure you drink it no less than 2 months after the "BEST AFTER date".

My top 5 faves at the local
1. Tooheys Old - I will never get tired of this gem.
2. James Squire Golden Ale
3. Guinness - really depends on where you get it, but its tops
4. Kilkenny - lovely in winter, well, lovely anytime.
5. Any new beer which happens to arrive on tap for a limited time will always have me asking for a schooner... never leave a new beer untried.

and then the one you can't get on tap
Coopers Best Extra Stout - would be no.1 if it were available on tap!

(was gonna say Cascade Light, but that's only if I'm driving).

p.s Just bought Cascade stout on the weekend - 1st slab in well over a year. Pales in comparison to Best Extra, but a bloody lovely session stout IMHO.

Say it isn't so! I've got 2 in the fridge, I shall treasure them.

Top five at the moment is

1) Coopers Pale Ale (won't change)
2) JS Golden Ale (for now)
3) Becks
4) Coopers Dark Ale
5) LC Bright Ale

That's just at the moment though, they change often.

It was originally a limited run. Then it went on the permanent list. That was 2005 that I wrote that.

Ah how times and tastes change

my current top 5 is:

1/ Esme bitter (5 islands brewery and only available on tap locally - Amarillo heaven)
2/ Bohemian Pils
3/ Bright Ale
4/ Porter Kembla (again a local beer only availble on tap)
5/ LCPA

If you had a big night drinking most of the beers mentioned you would be pretty light in the wallet afterwards.
