AM I SUPPOSED TO BE POURING THE TEST BREW MIX INTO THE PLASTIC SLEEVE THAT THE HYRDOMETER WAS PACGED IN?
No mate, go buy yourself a hydrometer jar. They're dirt cheap by the way...

You need to have at least 5mm clearance all around your hydrometer to enable an accurate reading to be obtained ...

You may be surprised to know that sodium bisulphite is actually dosed into commercial beers as a preservative, along with ascorbic acid (vitamin C).

The "meta" bit simply refers to its chemical structure....the position of the two bisulphite ions in relation to one another...... it's still just ...

Its threads like these that add to the value of any site I reckon- people expressing themselves, in whatever way, make the community vibrant and alive. There are limits, of course, and in my opinion its been approached here but not overstepped.

Yeah I use empty 500ml PET coke bottles. Soon to go to kegging.....

Yemen isn't dry as such, they tolerate us bringing booze in but we don't flaunt it. Maybe it has something to do with us working for a multinational oil company :roll:

Wouldn't want to chance it if I was travelling as a tourist ...

Alright fellas,

I'm about to put down my first brew of bitter for the boys at work. I'm going to do a double brew (46L).

I'd like to hear some recipe suggestions. I'm after a high(ish) alc% (6%??), tasting similar to a Boddington's Bitter.
