Chazman, if you can wait, let it go 2 months and you'll see a big difference. Of course, that would indicate you need to test at the 2 weeks and 4 weeks mark so you can judge the difference

Perhaps in the mean time you could buy some CPA long necks and drink them so you can add them to your ...

I mean having funny flavours due to the high temp. To me when i've let the temp get too high in the past it seems to resemble a fruity flavour. I'm not sure if that's just my opinion

have i killed my yeast???

I put on a basic brew last night and re-hydrated some Safale US-05 and everything was going well with fantastic activity this morning. However, I was changing the position of my 2 fermentors this morning and put this HB on a heat pad that was inadvertently on

Needless to say I ...

I bought a 400g bag from Safeway for about $5.00 (on sale) and used 150g with the rest going to the Mrs for desert :D :D :D .

The taste I have got at the moment is very subtle, more like an after taste. If I was going to do it again, and i'm certainly not convinced at this stage, I would double the ...

Beersmith,
I gave this a kreik  back on 11 October and am just starting to get a taste that is palatable. The Mrs and I had a try on the 13 November and it was certainly to green with no taste of raspberry.

I used this combo:
1.7 kg Thomas Cooper's Trad Draught
500g light dried malt
500g ...

fair enough then. i'll weigh up what type to get. I know in due course (or is that season  ) i'll go down the digital path suggested by Kevnlis and Drsmurto, but in the interim the Bi metal thermometer is a good option considering the funds are stretched trying to set up for AG.

Edit: sorry ...

Tipsy,
you have no problems with leaking having the thermometer on the side? It seems like it would seal reasonably well.

Do you have problems with stirring?

Sorry if I've confused you. What i have done so far is racked from primary to secondary and then waited for FG to be steady 3 times. I then bottled and have placed the HB in the fridge for CCing which is at 7 degrees (don't have a fridgemate and I have seen your response to another post :D ).

I ...

Appropriate size thermometer in mash tun

I'm looking at getting a good quality thermometer to replace my glass thermometer that I haver been using up to now for AG brewing.

I've have a 26 litre esky that i plan on using as a mash tun/lauter although the dimensions are 40wx20dx30h (cm) which I believe is closer to 24 litres.

Can anyone ...

I've got the Golden Harvest Batch sitting in a fridge at approx 7 degrees for CCing. Although i'm not sure if this correct. What I mean by that is, I used US56 yeast in the primary, but once I have racked into the secondary, I assume most of the yeast should be consumed. Accordingly, once I bottle ...

I have to weigh in here - although it was a number of years ago and only alcoholic lemonade, a group of mates and I managed to hit the 15% mark. There was only a few rockets going off in the brew cupboard but we all managed to survive :D :D :D
On reflection i'm not really sure the extra sugar ...
