I'm very happy with my two first brews. I did generic first brew which I am enjoying right now. Then, I did a Cooper's black and tan (1 can stout, 1 can dark ale+ brown sugar) which is fantastic. I can safely say that the Copper's ales are top shelf, so don't be hesitant on picking any of those up ...

Update #2:
This beer is as good as tomaco. However, as good as it is, I'm switching to AG. I'm a control freak and I need to now exactly what is in my beers. Not to mention how cheap it is to brew AG. I've decided to brew in a bag because I'm far too cheap to get (or make) all the equipment ...

Update:

I just tried the lager again and most of the green apple flavour is gone. Perfect! I was needing a nice, refreshing beer and now I have one without breaking the bank.

Welcome aboard, Cleric!
My guess would be you've picked up an infection. At my local HBS the boss just tossed a keg full of Bule Mountain Larger due to an infection. Smelled just like my first Coopers Larger kit made with sucrose!
For you're next batch, try bulk bottled water from ...

Re: Just tasting my first homebrew now.

I have not been back to that HB store because I have found them to be overpriced, so I haven't checked the tins out.

They prolly just seem over priced because you are comparing them to the supermarket and the discount store.

I'v found that with the huge range of different kits you can get at a ...

I agree. I can't drink Kilkenny out of the can, it is just bizarre.

Sacrilege!

You must have got a bad lot!
I hope that is the case. I picked it up because I heard so much about it. Maybe in the distant future I will give it another whirl.

Re: Just tasting my first homebrew now.

You bought a hb kit, brewed it out, and bottled it but you don`t know what brand it is? Is that correct?
What did you add to this kit?

The can has the same type of labeling as Cooper's, but it was a generic brand. I have seen the same stuff at the local supermarket and some discount stores. I ...

It's winter here right now, so the outside temp is about -9C without windchill.

From what I have heard, Guinness has 52 different versions of there beer across the world. So it would taste different in austrailia, than in South Africa, than Canada, than Ireland. I cannot confirm this because I heard this on the grapevine, but I know I like it a hell of a lot more on tap, than ...

I didn't see Busch mentioned here. That is undoubtedly brewed with piss water.
Moosehead as Dogger mentioned is awful. Every bottle I have had smells like skunk piss (tastes like it too).
You can tar and feather me if you want to, but Hooengarde(sp) is the worst beer I have ever had the misfortune ...

How clear should mead be?

Completely transparent like white wine or opaque like red wine?

Thanks for your time.

I'M IN CAPS
the green apple taste and aroma is highly likely due to the fermentation temp being too high, causing the production of esters from the yeast. assuming it's an ale yeast (most likely for a first-time kit), it should have been fermented as close to 18c as possible, and up to, oh, i guess ...

1 generic Canadian lager (5 weeks)
1 Cooper's stout (1 tin stout, 1 tin dark ale) (4 weeks)
1 cinnamon and pineapple mead (4 weeks)

I just racked my mead for the first time today. Wow, what a difference in clarity already. I can't wait to let my family try some because it already tastes great.

Just tasting my first homebrew now.

Canadian Lager. 5 weeks old in total (2 in primary, 3 in pet bottle for carbing). It is from a kit found at a nearby hb shop. I don't know the brand so I will just say it is generic for the sake of it.
I made this before I found this terrific site and here is the list of mistakes I made;

No boil ...
